Flight time LA to Tokyo 12hrs. Houston to Tokyo, 13.5hrs. Hell, Chicago/Detroit to Tokyo is 13.5hrs and NY is 14hrs. Doubt that flights home to Japan would be much of an issue from any American city that has a non-stop flight. Flight across the Pacific is just damn long no matter where you start out.

I loved the Piccadilly at Almeda Mall. There were designs on the bottom of the plate.
If we behaved we got to go to Ferrells for ice cream.
I grew up going to the Tookies in Seabrook. My parents first house was on Todville road

On any Ohtani trade potential. I would think it would further deplete our already thin farm system.
It like spending your last 100 bucks on a Mike Tyson fight, to have it go 1.5 minutes before a knock out.

I think one of the issues is that teams that were trading for Machado were literally trading for him as a rental. At least some of the teams trying to trade for Ohtani are probably hoping it gives them a leg up in signing him longer term, similar to how Verlander (accidentally) worked out for the Astros. If you're planning to make a serious bid for Ohtani in the offseason, then maybe getting him now, having some postseason success (his first taste of it!) and building connections with your clubhouse helps you sign him later - in that scenario, maybe you're willing to pay more for that opportunity. Or pay more not to let a rival have that opportunity.

Throw in Montero as a good will gesture.

I mean, that would take the money owed to Rendon from 138M for the rest of this year and the next 3 years down to 110. That would be like taking money back. we’ve got enough room under the line this year to fit in ok. Next year that would put us over the line unless you moved off of Bregman. Which, you could do of course, but Rendon is made of glass and even when healthy probably not someone you want to trot out there.
I don’t think I’d do this deal if I was the Astros. I sort of doubt the Angels would do it either, but the surplus value for Ohtani is much less than how underwater the Rendon contract is.

It was on Palmer Hwy about 50 yards from Baskin Robbins. A good BBall brother of mine worked there as a cook as well and let's just say I ate a lot of burgers during that time. I believe that was the first Tookies and it closed long ago.

Otani is a jerk off fantasy move, not an Astros kind of trade (think Yankees). I'm hoping Brown is ice in the veins sniper that executes deals that take our breath away.

Ha Almeda was my 2nd mall, the one inside 610 and 45 was my first, can't recall the name now.

I feel trading julks right now might be a good move. Reminds me of when we traded Straw when his trade value peaked.

I also think we could get Dylan Carlson for Colton Gordon and Forrest Whitley.

The Mets are now 8 games out of the 3rd wild card. Their season may be done. I’d love to see a JV reunion. The asking price probably wouldn’t be high given his performance this season and his contract. Do the Mets pull the plug and sell off their high priced players?

Astros (and other teams) have spoken to Mets about both Scherzer (who has a NT but said he will waive to win) and Verlander. Astros and other teams wanted to attach a bad contract and/or get money back in a deal for Verlander… with another piece going back to the Mets.
