Cade and Wemby didn't get much applause at the NBA's in-season tournament reveal. Cade forgot his name and took forever to come out. How the hell do you not cheer for Wemby? Mean fans.
I expected Wemby to be able to contain better on the perimeter but from what I saw guards and wings were getting by him. I never envisioned him as a five. If he can’t guard better in space it’s going to be tough if his offense isn’t short of elite. Granted, this was simply one summer league game so take it fwiw.
Yeah, only one summer league game, but I also wondered if he could keep up with the uptick in speed - especially on the perimeter. When he put the ball on the floor he was getting flustered a bit. Going to also be interesting to see if they just let him shoot those 3's. He seems like a good dude, so I hope he succeeds - just not enough to cause the Rockets any issues, anyway.
I want believers to convince me how he's gonna be able to stay healthy at first. How do you look at Wemby's legs and not think that this dude is doomed to get injured terribly at some point and never reach to his potential? He's had 4 mild to serious injuries in the last 3 years. Shoulder contusion (2 months), finger fracture (A month), stress fracture in fibula (3 months), Psoas injury (Ruled out for remainder of season). That's like 8 months. Overlooking his injury history is so funny to me. They love him man and love is blind.
Excerpts from : The Bounce: Victor Wembanyama’s duality, who is too good for Summer League and Vegas observations ___________________________________________________________ You’re Too Good The All-Too Good For Summer League Teams First Team: Jabari Smith Jr., Houston: There was a point when I thought he’d get fined by the league for bullying James Wiseman on the court. Smith said he wants to play because his rookie year wasn’t perfect. While that’s admirable, he’s too good to be here now. Tari Eason, Houston: He’s been about as disruptive on defense in Summer League as Scottie Pippen was demolishing backcourts in the 1992 Olympics. Caught Your Eyes Ten more observations from Summer League 2. Cam Whitmore is so smooth scoring the ball, but he might pass twice a game. 6. Keyonte George would win Summer League MVP if Jabari Smith Jr. never showed up. 10. Scoot Henderson and Amen Thompson are way better than advertised — and their advertising was already top-notch.
As a fan I am bummed. Flying in today to watch some games. Really wanted to watch these two in particular.
I think it's smart on many levels, it let's Jabari and Tari ride the wave of confidence for a few more months. It also means something to other GM's in the event the Rockets could pull a superstar trade this summer, however unlikely it is.
I feel you. I was supposed to fly in Sunday morning, but decided to cancel once Amen got hurt. Had a little bit of regret yesterday given how much fun that game was. hey, enjoy rooting for Cam. He looks like a great prospect.
