Trade Houston chinese food with Chicago italian, and call NYC to see if they are willing to part with bagels for Houston birria. Who says no? Yeah it will suck to lose our Sichuan, but birria is replaceable if you still have good barbecoa waiting to get called up, and overall I think Houston ends up with a more COMPLETE food team.
3 trades Marcus Stroman SP And Julian Merriweather RP FOR Rional Blanco SP Forrst Whitley SP David Hensley 3B And Alberto Hernandez SS Jordan Montgomery SP Miles Mikolas RP And Dylan Carlson OF FOR Spencer Arrighetti SP Luis Garcia SP Trey Dombroski RP Colton Gordan SP Last a dump off Jake Meyers CF Corey Julks LF Jacob Melton OF and Rafeal Montero RP FOR Zac Veen OF These traded would help us long term and short. Adding Stroman and Montgomery to the SP rotation, would solidify our road to the WS. Merriweather and Mikolas in our bull pen would help us short term as innings eaters to make it to our studs. Dylan Carlson can come in and not be put pressure on. He would be able to grow in a winning organization. And also be able to play on a lower contract for awhile. Might end up turning things around Last we move off Monteros contract. It stings alittle but Meyers, Julks and Milton would be the cost. We get Veen from the Rockies but his Injurys may have chased the Rockies to maybe trade him away. The Rockies gain control of 2 longterm OFs and a up and comming prospect.
So this is what happens around here when there's no baseball? (talking about the food talk and not the trade proposal above )
This is an old take. I’ve been here since 1995, and the cuisine has changed so so much since then. The food used to be very pedestrian here, I will give you that. Anyone directing people to Maudies (for anything other than breakfast tacos) or Matt’s is living in the past. Those were always overrated places. The mexican food in Houston and SA was undeniably better than Austin back then. It still is but Austin has closed the gap considerably. I remember when the fanciest places in town were Jeffrey’s and Louis 106 (I was a manager there). The food has changed so much here in Austin since then. The population has more than tripled since the 90’s. It’s a completely different town in many ways now.
My top targets 1. J Montgomery 2. Snell 3. Soto 4. Hader 5. Stroman 6. Nolan Jones Problem with Montgomery is the cards want people who can help for next year, for us to offer that it pretty much has to be OF and that’s the one thing they don’t need SD having a poor first week back could do wonders for the trade market. If SD has a good week and feels like they could make a run those guys don’t get moved. If they crap the bed and put those on the block, it significantly changes how much of a sellers market it is this year
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023...lers-rich-hill-mitch-keller-david-bednar.html If the Astros go for a “pad the fringes” deadline to preserve their assets: Astros get: SP Rich Hill 1B Ji-Man Choi $1M Pirates get: LHP Blake Taylor RHP Enoli Paredes RHP Misael Tamarez Astros get a rental stable veteran innings-eating 5th starter and a solid lefthanded bench bat. Pirates save a few million and get 3 lotto arms. Playoff Roster: 2B Altuve LF Brantley 3B Bregman DH Alvarez 1B Abreu RF Tucker C Diaz CF McCormick SS Pena Bench: Maldy, Dubon, Choi, Meyers Rotation: Framber, Brown, Javier, Urquidy BP: France, Hill, Martinez, Montero, Stanek, Maton, Neris, Abreu, Pressly
I am very fine with this kind of approach, maybe not for these specific players, but any kind of similar type of guys.
I like Hill a lot. Not sure how much Choi helps out. If Brown makes this move he better get a high leverage reliever like Hader because the bullpen is going to need reinforcements. If I'm Brown, I'm shopping in the Snell/Giolito/Lynn market, gotta get a starter that can go deeper into games to help an overworked bullpen.
We either need a starter who can start a playoff game OR two inning eating mid rotation types. We can’t ride Javier and Brown very hard the second half and expect them to be dominant in October
Oh, I wasn't complaining. As a person from the Rio Grande Valley who hasn't traveled (or at least eaten at) a lot of the places mentioned, I enjoyed living vicariously through the chat. Plus, it was a way more enjoyable read then some of the other non-baseball chats that have surfaced over the years.
Current 26 man roster Framber ---> keep Javier ---> keep Brown ---> keep France ---> move to bullpen Bielak ---> replace ( Urquidy) Pressly ---> Keep Neris ---> keep Abreu ---> keep Maton ---> keep Montero ---> keep Martinez---> replace (France) Stanek ---> keep Kuhnel ---> replace Maldonado---> keep Diaz---> keep Abreu ---> keep Bregman ---> keep Pena ---> keep McCormick--> keep Tucker ---> keep Dubon ---> keep Meyers or Julks ---> keep Julks or Meyers ---> replace Kessinger ---> replace Hensley ---> replace ( Altuve) Madris ---> replace ( Alvarez) So it looks like to have an ideal roster, 7 players should be replaced. Bielak, Hensley, and Madris will be replaced by injured players returning leaving 4 roster spots. #4 starter (currently France) Bullpen ( currently Kuhnel) LF/ 4th OF ( currently Julks or Meyers) Bench ( currently Kessinger)
I hope Brown trades for a starter and a reliever . Then Baker goes back to a 6 man rotation to limit Javier's/Brown's innings, so they will be fresh for the playoffs. Still need a bat though.
The problem with this is that Pressly, Abreu, and Maton all have many more innings on their arms than at this time last year and a 6 man rotation reduces the bullpen from 8 to 7 pitchers. But, Yes, I agree the important pitchers - starters and relievers- need less usage and be better rested heading into the playoffs. But gotta get there first.
If the add a starter and a reliever that will take the pressure off of the staff. The Seattle series told me they need to add another bat as well, even with Altuve and Alvarez coming back.
