Looks like a fair deal but I doubt they trade Nootbar. He looks to be a core piece for them

I expect they have about 7 position players they will try to get rid of first, and Montgomery and Hicks are the 2 important pieces in that deal.

I don't see the Astros playing hardball and risk losing them trying to get Lars included.

I think it's going to be tough to trade with the Cards and, to some extent, the White Sox

Both will be losing the majority of their rotation but keeping the majority of their position player roster.

Both will likely want pitching in deadline deals and most teams have more/better than the Astros to offer.

The Padres, on the other hand, look like OF will be the weakest area returning next year.

He's proving his value now as a 6-7th starter when injuries hit like they have this year, pitchers like Bielak help keep the team a float until reinforcements are brought in. There's a lot of value in this.

But every organization has 5 of him already.

He doesn't stand out and isn't better than most of the AAA starters for every other team.

    Except he's more expensive

    How about
    Dylan Carlson OF
    Miles Mikolas RP
    Jordan Montgomery SP

    For
    Luis Garcia SP
    Spencer Arrighetti SP
    Shawn Dubin RP
    Pedro Leon 2B/OF
    Jaime Melendez SP
    And
    Forrest Whitley SP

This would be a a fair trade to me.
Thinking it would be even across.
They won't like moving Carlson but he hasn't faired to well in St Louis

Only one of those players would be useful to us and we would be giving up 2 starters with control and probably our best minor league pitchers.

Montgomery would be the Astros 2nd best SP
Hicks and Gallegos would be valuable 7th inning RP slotting in behind Pressly/Abreu/Neris. Gallegos comes with an additional year.
Nootbar would be the starting LF, a clearly better hitter than Julks/Meyers, and he hits lefty. He also is controlled long term.

We would have only 4 starting pitchers next season.

I do not believe a long term starter or position player that we could pick up at the deadline is in our interest. A relief pitcher that has not reached arbitration is what I am most interested in.

    Framber
    Brown
    Javier
    Urquidy
    Bielak
    Blanco
    Whitley

That’s 7 MLB ready options already on the 40 man, plus McCullers who would be ready sometime after midseason. Then we’ll have to wait and see what happens with Macuare, Robaina, Kouba, Gordon, Tamarez, Solis, and the other SP in the upper levels over the next 3 months to see if any of them become viable options. Of course, there would also be an entire offseason to address the issue.

Blanco and Whitley? Come one. Whitley can't even get AAA players out for more than 3 innings at a time. Blanco is not a starter. Bielak and Urquidy aren't much more than inning eaters. We need to keep JP at a minimum.

Montgomery and Hicks are Free Agents after this year

Nootbar is still pre-arb, they aren't trading him. They have said they will make moves this year aimed at 2024

Gallegos has two more years after this year

As much as I would like Montgomery, and a trade for him is very much a possibility, a deal like this has way less than 1% chance of happening

Cards are not in any way looking to move Nootbar, and pretty unlikely to move Gallegos

Astros aren't going to limit their pitching staff next year as much as this deal would do. Plus, Garcia isn't a free agent until 2027, he is a big part of the future plans for the starting staff, especially with how little money he will be making

Tucker will also be around in 2025, he isn't a FA until 2026

    Tucker isn't being traded
