I wish I was as high on KPJ as you are. He is so unorthodox. When he goes for a simple layup he makes his own shot harder than it has to be and ends up fading away on layups. At this point we have too much talent for KPJ to have the opportunity to become our best
Jalen is in a different tier as Billups in terms of natural gifts so it's weird to even relate the two. The difference between Edwards and Green is Edwards does what he does in a team that wins more and therefore he gets more positive reception but ya a team that has established vets and stars is going to win more. It also seems like you have an inability to apply context of age and stage of development. Again, Green is literally in all time lists for scoring before turning 21. He has the 6th most 30 pt games in league history before turning 21. Look at the list of the top 20. The worst players are like Wiggins and LaMelo Ball. Almost everyone is a first ballot hofer. Outside of all time 19-20 year olds like Zion, Luka and LeBron, Green is doing fine. If Jabari gets on this list that would be really bad because he won't come close to the actual output. You are posting input(fga). Where will Jaabri be in all time lists for actual average and things like 30 pt games before turning 21? Am I supposed to be shocked at 26 guys in 40 years? Is that supposed to be a lot?
He is the only player on the team that can get anywhere he wants on the court by himself, he is a unique talented offensive player. Lebron, Dame and many other NBA players have called him special, people here don't like him because he was forced into a role that was not in his wheelhouse, but he is an amazingly gifted Combo guard... He will break out, but it may not be in Houston..... DD
Why is Sengun even on the poll list? He is already a super star, Silas kept him from two all star games by not playing him but if he was playing he would have been one of the best players in the league. From all those other players clearly its Green.....
Lol dude, you're the one who asked me! I wouldn't have dug this up and posted it if you didn't ask me! I don't know how you're supposed feel about it, I gave it to you because you asked.
I mean I'm assuming you are implying 26 players in 40 years is a lot. I mean we can just simply examine the top 20 lists of all these scoring lists Green is on like 30 pt game before turning 21 and see how many players are on the list who didn't amount to much and are what people say "a player who got his looks at a young age undeserved and really didn't turn out to be much".
I agree he is incredibly talented but he is also his own worst enemy but that was in the past with Silas running things. I’m excited to see what Udoka has in store for KPJ and unlike most people on this board I’m glad we kept him. With Jalen, FVV, and now Amen. KPJ has his work cut out for him to stay on the court. If he puts his mind to it I can see him taking Jalen Green’s starting spot but hopefully they both bring the best out of each other.
Doing fine and being the Bell Cow that will be the best player on a championship team are two different things. I thought this thread was about giving our opinion on who had the best chance to be that first team all-NBA guy? Being the 2nd or third best player on a championship team is not a bad thing. Sometimes we all miss the forest for the trees. All time greats are very rare - doesn't mean someone doesn't value a player or like a player if they don't see that type of potential. Taking a really large number of shots, and missing most of them, doesn't put one on a path to greatness and it makes the team goal harder to accomplish, because there are only so many shots to go around. I hope that the extreme amount of deference Green was given to play the way he played didn't hurt his development permanently. I hope he lives up to your expectations, because that would make me happy as a Rocket's fan. But, I expect he will have to throttle back his game for the Rocket's to win big and compete for Championships.
I feel this way about Sengun as well. Sengun is so polished but still has so much potential I think he will be better than Chet, Mobley and Wemby. But out of those 3 Chet will be the best
You're being disingenuous here. Here's Kobe and Green's 1st season per 36 (to average it out) stats. Kobe - 17.6 pts, 3 ast, 4.3 reb, 1.6 stl, 0.8 blk, 3.7 TOV, .417 FG% .365 3p% Green - 19.5pts, 3 ast, 3.8 reb, 0.7 stl, 0.3 blk, 2.3 TOV, .426 FG% ,343 3p% And yet you say one of those players is "great right out of the box as a rookie" and the other isn't? Seems legit.
I mean can you tell me who the flukes are here? Percentage of players on this list that are hofers or will be?
No, that is not at all what I'm implying. If you go back and read my post, the point I'm making is that it is becoming a lot more common for players to come into the league at a young age, and get high usage at a young age. A long time ago it never happened. Then a few decades back it started happening, but very rarely. And now, in the most recent decade, and especially in the last 5 years, it's actually quite common. The reason I make this point is because it adds context to these lists of "only X players have done some thing before turning 21." Or "only X players have done this thing at 19 years old." It sounds pretty incredible when you first hear it, like wow, the nba has been around for 100 years but only 10 guys have ever done this? But it's a thing that players didn't really do until very recently.
Actually, I think you are probably right for Kobe. He is the all time great of inefficient chucking. He was pretty bad as an 18 year old - offensively. Kobe always brought the defense though. Jalen has to play defense to live up to his ability - otherwise he is Zach LaVine.
I've never thought this argument held water. I've been hearing that since MJ in the 80s before he started winning in the playoffs. "Anyone can average 30 if they shoot 20+ shots a game". I just don't buy it. You know what happens when one player consistently scores? The defense starts adjusting. Not everyone can beat double and triple teams and still score consistently. It's not linear. Green is still wildly inconsistent with his efficiency, that's for sure. But IMO this particular argument against him isn't very valid.
