Browns deal is 1 year, you cant compare that. If brooks got 1 year for the max I wouldn’t care. The damage is the length, being stuck with him for 4 years. He’s also a far worse overall player then brown or grant because offense exists

How is everyone's acceptance of this deal progressing?

    I went from:
    Stage 1: Oh no...
Stage 2: It can't really be $80MM; there must be incentives...
Stage 3: Well, the salary cap is expected to increase soon. I guess it's not the worst...
    Stage 4: It's $86MM now? Jesus...
    Stage 5:

The low turnover rate doesn't matter because every time he shoots it's basically a turnover. If this guy shoots more than 10 times a game, I'll lose any confidence in Ime as a coach.

Beyond the economics, I just don't like the player's decision making or dropping his personality into the locker room, at all. I just can't understand it. (As I said before, I hope Ime was involved in this decision and that he knows something about Brooks that we do not.)

I think there are a few ways in which this signing could become a disaster:

    1) His shooting/efficiency is so bad that it puts greater burden on our other offensive players and makes Brooks unplayable at times.
    2) He thinks that as the 2nd highest paid player on the team he is entitled to X shots per game and shooting in clutch moments.
    3) For the reasons above or for some other reason, he becomes a locker room problem that brings the team down.

I don't know if any of these are likely to happen, but no one would be surprised if they did. And it's not like we'll be able to easily move off the deal if things go sideways.

But whatever. He's here. Life sucks and then you die.

That is definitely going to happen. We might as well get used to the idea already so we don't cause issues to our blood pressure during the season.

I’ve never heard of this stat but I’m guessing it doesn’t know how to account for defense, seeing as Marcus Smart is ranked 403 and one of the worst players on the Celtics.

Brooks' skillset is best suited to play the PJ Tucker role. But his mindset is nowhere similar to Tucker. Maybe he needs to start collecting sneakers so that the commentators have something to talk about him other than his game.

Not only do we have the worst two players in the L now, but our roster has 4 of the worst 20 in the L. Wow, hahaha.

Sad to see Jalen and Jabari there, but I guess we could say part of it was our "style of play."

His defense slipped a lot last season and he’s awful on offense so it makes sense

Just let the guy come in and play. People have already written him off. What is more annoying is that the narrative is already written and as long as he is with the team we.will constantly just get bunch of posts supporting a narrative that was developed before he even signed with the team.

    Sooo annoying

It’s really simple… if he cuts his FGA in half and plays his normal level of defense then it will be a decent contract.

The metrics are what’s terrifying, not the narrative

Dude, I'm very happy to change my mind.

But the narrative has been written by Brooks' mouth, his offensive inefficiency, and the fact that his team of six years wanted no part of him. That's not a bunch of us concocting a "narrative." I was actually kind of high on the guy coming out of college, but then when I could barely root for him when he was playing the Warriors, I could see I had a problem with him. LOL.

Again, I've changed my mind about players before, and I'd love to change my mind on Dillon Brooks.

Sorry I didn't mean to lump everyone into one category but you know there are people on here that never change there minds and are the most active posters. I hope your opinion changes bc of his play

Efficiency geeks are rarely swayed. They swear by the stats and have no inkling in how to quantify intangibles leading to cognitive bias. Its why they will laser focus on Brooks offense and then say things like "his defense isnt even that good" or "his offense is so bad that it overshadows his defense" .. Houston didnt bring in Brooks to be an offensive captain and Im pretty sure he understood that when he signed, but those same folks will swear that Brooks will run amok and came here because he wants to be a 1st option. Wait for the games - alot of these know it alls will be "happy to be wrong"

Why are you acting like it's some crazy thing to be worried about, given that he publicly complained about not getting enough touches this year and hasn't taken under 13 shots per game in four years? Shouldn't the default assumption be that he'll be roughly the same guy he has been, rather than assuming that he will make a drastic change in the way he plays?

I would love it if he stopped being such a chucker, but I'm not going to delude myself that getting a big bag and playing for a much-worse team is going to be the motivation he needs to suddenly become a team player.
