Cam Whitmore will look and play much better next to NBA caliber players. Dude is just forcing too much playing with scrubs. Yule see.

The 10 minute quarters also help.

Did he look a bit gassed at points? Seemed like it to me, but who knows.

Summer League but even these teams looked more defensively adept than any Silas team over the past 3 seasons. Hustle, rotations, fighting, etc. Tari and Bari just look happier.

Sure, but it's an overall philosophy shift if you compare the summer leagues teams over the past 3 years. Plenty of teams giving up over 100 points. The coaching is focused on different development aspects. I think it will translate well into the regular season.

Now that I'm in the right game thread, I see Hudgeons and Hinton had good games. Also, who is this Mayer guy? He was hustling.

I love the defense of our summer league guards. Can we get this kinda effort from our NBA players? Hinton is all over the place. He reminds me of Royal Ivey.

Whitmore is soo young its hard to gauge how hes going to play out..but I see why many passed on him.

Has great release...pretty much perfect and is athletic as ***, but does questionable things and at times seems uninterested. Needs to stay more in control and know his spot. I know its just summer league, but the amount of selfishnesses was too much...

In the summer league, the Rockets actually give up more points than most teams in the games so far. Almost all teams give up less than 100 ppg - out of 30 teams there were only about 3 teams that gave up more than 100. The majority of teams (about half) give up 90 points or less. The Rockets give up around 97.

A lot of this is because it's not-read-for-NBA players against other not-ready-for-NBA players and the shorter quarters. I also doubt they're taking the time to implement a bunch of defenses and offenses for 4 games that don't matter. The summer league is probably not the best place to see what's going to happen in the regular season, but it's a good place for players to showcase hustle and see how they react to situations.

That being said, I would hope defense gets better in the regular season since we just paid a crap-ton for 2 defensive players to start.

With Smith and Eason out, the Rockets seem to have gone back to a more perimeter-oriented offense. This game also reminded me a lot of what I've seen in G League games.

It also makes me think Whitmore may not benefit too much from spending a lot of time in the G League this season. Rather, it may be better for him to get spot minutes in real NBA games, where he can learn to play within more structured set plays.

The 1st game was like a wake up call. Because they've been bustin' heads ever since. Can't tell by the highlights but the defense must be superb.
