Some SOFs say sengun is now 6'11 or 7ft, so I think we need to give him a chance with Ime. Silas's schemes were terrible and put all if the players in bad positions. I just wished Sengun was more effective outside of 10ft.

Thats why I wouldnt be against bringing Wood back. If Sengun was the WORST at defense last yr, why not bring Wood back and add to the front court?

There’s a priority order. Amen is 1,2, and 3 on Bob Sullys list.

We’re trying to build a culture here if you haven’t noticed. Wood does not fit the mold with his attitude (which is know seen by GMs across the league)

Lol, that rating is a team/lineup based stat.
Every other metric Alp is an average to above average defender compared to the rest of the team

This is missing a ton of context. The Rockets were 29th in the league in defensive rating with a DRtg over 119. And Sengun actually had the third best on the roster behind Garuba and Eason.

Poor defensive teams with high defensive ratings usually result in individual players with high defensive ratings. I'd take this fact with a pretty huge grain of salt. Sengun isn't great defensively, but he's absolutely not the worst defensive center in the NBA.

Garuba barely played and he still had better defense than Sengun.

Not sure whether he is the worst but that isn't important, what's clear is he wasn't good defensively last year.

Rest of the team aren't centers not sure what's the point of comparing them.

That's like saying Jabari was an average or above average 3 pt shooter compared to the rest of the team last year.

The entire team was bad. They’re all going to rank really low.
Compare him to other centers in real defensive stats and he’s average to above average. Specially in relation to his teammates

Yes sir! Good to see the guys we expect to play well to actually .. PLAY WELL!

I hope Jabari and Tari are able to keep doing their thing vs NBA starters. Hey maybe we should have just kept Hudgins running point it seems like his passes hit Jabari just right!

Every time we make an open shot an angel gets his wings :D

Teach them how to lose. Wait, they’re already losers.

Stephen Silas brings his lessons learned with Rockets to Pistons

LAS VEGAS — Stephen Silas stood in the tunnel that leads from the Rockets’ locker room in Thomas & Mack Center to the court, Rockets staff members stopping to exchange hugs and back slaps, Silas’ familiar wide smile having returned. The father of the bride does not get as much attention in the receiving line.

He would soon take his place on the baseline, next to the Pistons bench, having become Monty Williams’ lead assistant in Detroit. He would watch Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason show their growth, taking pleasure, he said, in progress made by players that he had led at the start of their careers.

Mostly, though, he was happy to have chosen to keep on coaching after the Rockets chose against picking up their option on the fourth season of his contract.

“An opportunity to work for Monty Williams was something I couldn’t pass up,” Silas said. “He’s a really, really good man. And the more I’m around him, I mean, I knew he was a good coach, but he’s a really good basketball coach. So, for me, at this point in my career to be able to work with him has some stability as far as a lot of different things. I wouldn’t say it was a no-brainer, but it turned out to be a no-brainer.”

In some ways, he joins a team in a similar position as the team he left. The Pistons were the only team with a record worse than the Rockets’ last season. But they get Cade Cunningham back from his season-ending injury and add Ausar Thompson, the twin brother of Rockets draft addition Amen Thompson, to a young core with Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart and James Wiseman. They added Monté Morris and Joe Harris in trades.

“It’s a good situation for me because I can take a lot of the experience that I had with the Rockets and pour it into this situation with these young guys and kind of see stuff before it’s coming after three years,” Silas said. “So, it’s kind of good for me, and to work with Monty and the coaching staff and ownership and management, they’re all top notch. It’s really fun.”

Silas had no response when asked if the Rockets had treated him fairly, having been hired to coach former MVPs James Harden and Russell Westbrook and instead guiding the rebuild with a roster almost entirely filled with first- and second-year players. But he had been around the game for too long to concern himself with that. Fairness and the NBA can be passing acquaintances, exchanging nods, but little more.

Silas surely had noticed that five of his frequent or potential rotation players with the Rockets — K.J. Martin, Josh Christopher, Usman Garuba, TyTy Washington Jr. and Daishen Nix — were moved with little or no compensation, some with picks attached to move the contracts. But he said that he always understood and accepted that the Rockets’ spending would come after the first three years of the rebuilding.

Three months after his final game as Rockets coach in Washington, he would not complain about developments since his tenure as Rockets coach ended and his time as Pistons assistant began.

“I knew it was coming,” Silas said. “I knew that they were going to change and the rebuild was pretty much over after I was gone. So, I wasn’t really surprised. I’m very appreciative of my time.”

The Rockets’ primary additions, Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks watched from the front row as Eason and Smith combined for 64 points and the Rockets led by as much as 26 on the way to a 113-101 win. But Silas said that watching Smith and Eason excel was “great.”

“I mean, I’m here for those guys and I spent a lot of time with them on and off the floor,” Silas said. “So, it’s not like you just turn it off when you go to another team. The relationship still stays. So, I’m here for them and want them to do well — except when they play us.”

What do Garuba's minutes have to do with anything? His DRtg is better than Sengun's because he's a better defender, but if you took his DRtg (115) and compared it to other bigs in the league, you'd assume he was an awful defender. Every player on that team had an awful DRtg if you compared it to the rest of the league, Eason and Garuba included.

I'm not saying that Sengun is a good defender. I'm saying that your stat showing him as the worst defender in the league is incredibly misleading and lacking context. Sengun needs work defensively, but he's not the defensive disaster you're making him out to be.

Garuba's low playing time distorts his stats so it's not very reliable.

    https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/be...per-82-team-games-rookies-this-regular-season

Eason was the 5th best rookie in defensive rating so I got no clue what you are talking about buddy.

What context am I lacking? I don't know if Sengun was really the worst defensive center last year, point is his defense was indeed a defensive disaster based on stats. Eye test alone proved he was bad on D never mind the stats.
