If they sign him for less than $800.000 I will assume there is a better player coming in the 11th round. manipulating bonus pools better than other teams
I am often wrong but I am very seldom this wrong. In my opinion Mathews has tools and potential out the ying yang, unfortunately he has a two dollar head. That is an expression I have never had occasion to use before.

Gino Groover off the board, damn.

Sykora at 61 would be great. Gelof, Pratt, Hurley, and Ledbetter are other names I like at that pick.

Agree. Even though we have a new GM, we usually take a risky pick in the 2-4 round range with one of these tooled up raw athletes the past few drafts, still waiting for one of them to stick.

Jake Gelof, the Virginia 3B, would be a solid get if he's there. I know we have a TON of OF but Colton Ledbetter (Miss State) can flat out HIT.

Jake Meyers and Brice Matthews -- the Nebraska Cornhusker connection. Let's hope Brice is better.

Mike Harris was a HS 3rd rounder by Brown with the Braves.

He reminds me of Brewer too. Drafted high with high expectations at a premium position but now he is our 4th best 1st base prospect behind Clifford, Encarnacion, and Jon Damn Singleton.

I would slot Matthews as the Astros 4th best prospect for now, with the expectation he could easily move up to 2nd (behind Gilbert) or drop down into the teens depending on how his 1st pro season goes.

I interpreted the BlindHog's post as referring to Jordan Brewer, who has been playing mostly 1B recently.

Brewer is another example why you don't draft players off of 4 weeks of great play.

He absolutely tore up the college postseason, looked like the best player in college ball.

Ledbetter gone to the Rays. Damn. Sykora, Gelof, Pratt, or Hurley would be my pick, in that order.

If they sign him for less than $800.000 I will assume there is a better player coming in the 11th round. We will have to do some fancy manipulating of bonus pools to make sense of this.

He reminds me of a right-handed throwing Michael Brantley. I think he's going to be a stud.
