If you say the GM is responsible for everything because of talent, what do you say about the Padres, Yankees, and Blue Jays? Why? Players, managers, Luck? See the problem with you saying Dusty has NOTHING to do with it when others with similar talent haven't done squat with it, is that Dusty has taken 5 different franchises to the playoffs, and 2 different franchises to World Series. I think you can count on 1 hand the number of managers that have done that. Similarly, taking a team to 3 straight LCS' is very exclusive also. Your logic doesn't jive with history.
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...-astros-first-half-season-review-18191800.php Houston has existed in survival mode for much of the season and went 13-12 in its last 25 games before the break. … Brandon Bielak (3.79 ERA), J.P. France (3.26 ERA) and Hunter Brown (4.12 ERA) — and to a lesser extent Ronel Blanco (4.70 ERA) — kept the Astros afloat. France, a 28-year-old rookie who threw 66 innings, was especially a revelation. In the first half of the season, Houston’s pitching staff posted the second-lowest team ERA (3.66) in the majors. Astros starters combined to throw 510 2/3 innings, third most of any American League team, while ranking third in ERA and fifth in WHIP. … Increased workload has impacted the bullpen, too. Bryan Abreu, Phil Maton, Seth Martinez and Ryan Pressly are all on pace to pitch a career-high number of innings. Abreu, Maton and Héctor Neris each made 40 or more appearances during the first half. Pressly is at 39 appearances and Rafael Montero at 36. … The Astros managed to score just one run in each of their three losses to the Mariners in the final series before the break, underscoring an offense that has underperformed and underwhelmed. Catcher Martín Maldonado, the man with a .556 OPS, homered in back-to-back games Saturday and Sunday and was responsible for the only two runs Houston scored in its last 15 innings. The Astros' offense ranks in the bottom half of all 30 major league teams in batting average, on-base percentage and OPS. Houston’s .285 batting average on balls in play ranks 23rd in the majors, and the team’s barrels per batted ball events (7.6) ranks 21st. When José Abreu, representing the Astros’ tying run, struck out swinging to end Sunday’s 3-1 loss, it was emblematic of the struggles he has experienced all season. Abreu ended the first half with the lowest OPS (.630) of any qualified first baseman in the majors this season. But he did raise his batting average from .211 to .236 over his final 29 games played before the break and in that span produced six of his seven home runs, as well as 22 of his 45 RBIs. Two other lineup staples are also providing subpar offense. Alex Bregman is slashing .240/.338/.387 with a .725 OPS, the worst first-half offensive numbers of his last six full-length major league seasons. Jeremy Peña’s overall numbers aren’t awful, but the second-year shortstop has struggled to get the ball off the ground and hit for power. Peña slugged .324 in his last 71 at-bats before the All-Star break. He has two home runs but no other extra-base hits in that span dating to June 10.
Not sure anyone is saying Dusty has NOTHING to do with the Astros' success. People are just saying he's average. He has an all-time great team that Luhnow The Genius built and Dusty hasn't sh1tted the bed. Why are you so adamant about Dusty's prowess but so negative about Hinch? They're both average How many managers have had 5 different franchises?
Many here have said they won IN SPITE OF Dusty. 25 managers have taken multiple teams to the playoffs. Only 4 (Dusty 5) managers have taken 4 teams to the playoffs.
As has been noted multiple times, and regularly ignored by you, Dusty has some good points and some bad points. The bad seem to stand out in the regular season.
meaning we have pissed away our chance to take a lead in the division. There is no magic on this team. Crane got the big head. Sh* t canned Click. Played GM, sucked at it, and now that window has started to slide shut. I dare the Astros to make me eat my words.
Hitting Coach is not problem, Some Players are beyond their Prime and close to retirement age. Next Phase for the Astros should be to Draft more Power and Speed. Pitching really needs a overhaul in the Rotation. Spencer Arighetti and Lance McCullers in the Rotation Next Year will be a boost. The Astros are running on fumes most games, Jose Altuve won't be healthy this year and Yordan Alvarez never should play LF ever again, DH only.
2024 Season CF Drew Gilbert 2B Jose Altuve DH Yordan Alvarez 3B Alex Bregman RF Kyle Tucker 1B Jose Abreu 1B/C/ DH Yainer Diaz SS Jeremy Pena LF Chas McCormick
The differences is Dusty has 3 straight ALCS appearances, 2 WS appearances, and a win. LaRussa was just bad with the White Sox. The Astros are down 4 of 5 starters (including Javier), McCullers, their best hitter, their heart ans soul (Altuve), no Brantley, and yet are still in a Wild Card spot and only 2 games out of the division.
Overall, Dusty's teams are no better or worse before and after his arrival or departure He is "just a guy" when it comes to managing
