Astros were --out scored this series 20-6. --out hit 30-19 --lose 3 /4 games .... I guess the positive is that the rangers suck too. But man... What a disappointing series. Glad this first half of the season is over. Hopefully our returns will return soon, and remain healthy. The injuries this team has had to endure is insane.... Evening out after being so healthy last season.
The entire reign of Dusty is a fascinating look at hardships and nuances of leadership. From what I can gather, there's a large portion of the board who are going to give Dusty zero credit for any success. 'it was Luhnow, it was Click, it's the players, etc..." This is despite being the reigning WS manager. If players play well - it's in spite of Dusty (see Yainer, Chaz) If players play poorly - it's Dusty's fault they weren't benched (see Maldonado or early Jose Abreu). If the team underperforms (regardless if due to injury) - it's Dusty's fault If the team plays well - it's expected cuz #Luhnow Dusty doesn't tend to throw his players under the bus. He doesn't complain about getting **** from basically everyone, fairly or unfairly. He supports struggling players and continues to give plate appearances to all players to keep them somewhat regular. I don't even know if he processes this stuff like that, but IMHO it's pretty impressive leadership. Can't say I'm happy with the results of the first half, but I can't think of a better manager for the club to have TBH.
Mariners couldn't sweep the most injured team in baseball who plays the worst catcher in baseball despite having the ROY who plays catcher. I just hope Diaz's sophomore season doesn't suck as bad as Julio's
I bet the team gets a dead cat bounce from the ASB but if people don't get healthy and back to career levels then it's gonna be a long offseason this year.
Injuries are the story of the first half. We're due for some good luck in that area soon. 2 games back. Let's get it!
Dusty has been an amazing manager for the Astros in the Postseason. Dusty doesn't put stuff on players in the media Dusty is well-liked by his players and there is a proper clubhouse atmosphere Dusty and the staff have done a great job teaching/coaching with several of the young players All managers will get crapped upon for some decisions, some of the time Yet also, sometimes: Dusty makes totally inexplicable decisions wrt starting players Dusty makes totally inexplicable decisions wrt the lineup order Dusty makes totally inexplicable decisions wrt relieving starting pitchers. Dusty makes totally inexplicable decisions wrt to how challenges work All of these things can be true at once.
It's not 2020 regular season bad but I feel the team in performing no where close to their potential.
Well yea, they were rightfully the preseason #1 pick. But their record relative to how well they've actually played is pretty on point. https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/rpi Prior to today, they were 1 game behind their expected record. They're way underperforming their potential because of both player underperformance and injury. Framber is the only one in the rotation anywhere close to last season's performance. Tuve and Yordan have missed time. Jose Abreu was trash for two months. It definitely puts last season in a new light, from just a pure health standpoint.
Mariners will probably make a move for a bat or two. They have enough starting pitching to contend and make noise in the playoffs…. If they get their lineup re-inforced, they’ll have a very good chance to make noise.
Based on all the injuries, I would say we are in fine shape only 2 games back of an OceanGate Rangers team.
