When Altuve returns and soon after Yordan returns they'll get plenty of starts at DH. Dusty and Dana either need to work things out to where that equally cuts into Maldy's playing time when Diaz doesn't DH or Dana needs to rip the band aid and DFA him.

I realize they are under achieving but where would another bat play? and how much of an improvement will he be? Understand that Diaz is not catching more than 25%. That is sheer fantasy. So this new bat you propose will be replacing Diaz in the lineup not Maldy. The player the Astros gets and trades away players or prospects in order to get will shift Diaz to the bench. Tell me who that player is.
