this was the video I watched and what I meant by saying highlights . he look ok every game everyone makes passes that teammates don’t convert . To me it looked like scoot outplayed him . But amen didn’t play bad . We also had more talent on our team I think
It's summer league, but he was going up against an NBA backcourt - and two guys who project to be stars no less - and Amen filled the stat sheet and looked poised and under control while doing it. He isn't reckless like a rookie Jalen Green. I was very impressed and I'm excited about his future. I hope to god Ben Sullivan can help with that shot. He could be something truly special if he can get his shooting up to even league average.
I honestly think considering Scoot was gonna go 2 it was pretty close which is very good sign for Amen. Scoot def gonna be amazing if he stays healthy but it would appear Amen has a good chance too based on their matchup.
Amen was better in every way except for scoring and it was clear that Scoot came out with scoring as his number 1 priority. Scoot probably is a better scorer at this point, but as a point guard, Amen set his teammates up better, Portland just had better shooters surrounding Scoot.
I think last few years the players going top 3 was pretty set what was not set was what order they would go in or who would be picking top 3. Much like last year, I think this year rockets would have had to taken whoever was left of the top 3 had they had the 3rd pick. Ofcourse I would have love to get Scoot with the 3rd but I think picking 4th allowed them to sort of pick whoever they wanted.
I am high on Amen and he looks very promising, but I think future projections based on one game are silly.
I said maybe........but he looks like he has all the tools....and we can't say that about many of our picks to date. DD
I don't know about that. Scoot definitely started out hot, hitting several step back jumpers and running his team's offense well. He had the ball in his hands more as pretty much the sole initiator for his team where Amen was sharing initiating the offense with others for us. Now that could be a function of Amen not being totally comfortable being that type of point guard yet. It WAS one of the questions I had about him from watching his tape at OTE. But when Amen went out in the 1st quarter they both had 9 pts. Scoot stayed in and got 4 more with Amen on the bench. However later on they put Amen on Scoot pretty much exclusively his quickness and length bothered Scoot. He started cooling off and missing more and more shots. I think he started off 5-7 and ended up 5-13 iirc. I'm not trying to take anything away from Scoot. I think he'll be a great player. He's athletic, talented, smart and a gamer! He knew how to go into Amen when he played up tight on him to get fouls called and later on when Amen was really bothering him he was still able to pass out to teammates for open looks. But I saw soo many ways that Amen has the ability to get better and he still played Scoot to a standstill (or close to it). I feel better about Amen than I have ANY of our draft picks in a loooong time! And I wouldn't trade him straight up for Scoot even with an unprotected 1st thrown in! That would probably make a good poll. lol
True, I think the Scoot matchup though adds a bit more weight then a normal summer league game but its just one game. Hopefully in pre season he can have some minutes against actual nba pgs
I remember Jalen Green looking like the man his first SL game too. I'm high on him but not really taking this performance for more than what it is.
Absolutely! Jalen- scorer, bad defender, and doesn’t make others better. Sengun- low post scorer, playmaker, but awful on defense. Jabari- shooter, defensive upside, but not a playmaker nor creator. Amen- scorer, playmaker, defender, just does everything. All around prospect
