The best of all of our draft picks these last few years. He has the athleticism, and has a great handle, and has a hesitation dribble to get where he wants on the floor and great vision. He just looked so smooth out there, and his ability to start and stop allowed him to get by anyone and he plays defense. I think the Rockets got this one right, he is gonna be special and to me has the highest ceiling out of all our young players.. DD
To me, the most impressive thing was his defensive instincts. I think his offense will take quite some time to come around, but if it does, he could be a two way player and that would put him ahead of most of the Rockets recent draft picks.
He has activity but it’s still just summer league. I like the pick but I’m not getting hyped of off summer league. I’ll wait til preseason to do that
His game is intriguing. He immedietaly showed he can be very collected, thus can eventually become the guy to trust the ball. When it is natural, you see the flair. Can not wait to see him develop around FVV and Ime while we enjoy cross-court pocket passes and acrobatic finishes.
He just needs to avoid providing negative spacing ala: Russell Westbrook vs the Lakers and he'll be All-NBA at least. I was nearly brought to tears seeing his passing, they haven't had that since Harden was here, and for some of those passes, since Chris Paul was here.
I was pretty negative about AT's defensive tape and thought we'd see more clueless play... Gambling, wandering, loafing. But Amen showed adaptability and was testing what the refs would allow in that Portland game. After he has 10 or 15 games under his belt, he'll be a plus defender. In fact, he might be a better defender than Jalen Green/KPJ out of the gate. And getting a plus defender out of your 6'7 backup point guard is simply awesome.
Just a summer league game . Didn’t watch it besides the highlights . looks like he got off to a slow start and then picked it up . Scoot played well vs him it looked like . definitely like his size and athleticism. Not going to get too up or down about summer league / preseason . he’s got a long way to go. But he looks like he’s not a lost cause
I think it's pretty much a given that he'll be better defensively than Jalen Green out of the gate....it's hard for an NBA player to be that awful. Amen has the measurables, athleticism, and seems to have the defensive instincts to be better than KPJ defensively too, we'll see. He could also get into a lot of foul trouble being so aggressive against legit NBA players. It's something to look for.
He absolutely has a zero percentage chance of being a bust. I don’t know where he will end up, but people with that sort of all control, passing ability and defensive impact don’t bust.
Yes he will probably get into foul trouble as most rookies do unless they are anointed by the NBA. Just hope we have a coach that won't sit him the rest of the night when he has 3, ala, Silas and Sengun.
This here is a prime example of highlight scouting and predictably it leads to trash takes. Anyone who actually watched the game knows Amen would have had close to 15 assists if his teammates caught the ball better or converted on wide open looks. He played extremely well overall with very few missteps last night. Highlights aren’t going to show all of that.
He's definitely looking like a player the Rockets can build around. He moves like Penny and out there passing like Lebron. Players are going to have to catch passes and hit open shots or end up on the trading block lol. He was the #1 pick last night
I want to see how he reacts to it when it happens. The good news is that after picking up 4 fouls in like 11 minutes, he didn't pick another one up all game and still played good defense that whole time. If he can do that against real NBA players, that'll raise his floor A LOT, even if he continues to struggle offensively.
Don't watch highlights, theres youtubers that make videos of every possession. Dude made tons of amazing passes and kept up with Scoot first qtr, Scoot made a couple tough jumpers to start. Took 5 seconds to find one;
