He told the GM to go get Brooks as the primary target... and perhaps if he didn't, the Rockets could have outbid the Bucks.

I get it though, you're just slow. Don't worry, we can pick this back up in a few months when even people like you figure out why this was a bad thing.

“I have heard some criticism of my basketball team signing Dillon Rooks to a large contract. I would remind you that Rooks cost is less than the Suns paid for Kevin Durant and Dillon is a younger player and a better defender. This was a home run for us as an organization. Sometimes folks need to just shut up and listen, it isn’t their money, it’s money I received from the government during COVID.” - Tilman “Volcano dessert” Fertitta

@Nook just told you Brooks was Stone’s man. And giving up picks to get off contracts to get Lopez was also Stone’s job. None of this have to do with the coach. Except for your boy getting benched, I guess you can be mad about that just like you accused Sengun fans of doing if he got benched - wait except we were fine with Lopez starting.

DARKO (apanalytics.shinyapps.io/DARKO//) had him as a legit good player, an absolute win at $20M a year player...until the playoffs. Now it sees him as neutral.

I've always disliked him, but I have no problem switching gears now. No problem at all. None. Well. Fine, it's not easy, but I'm in.

Being in, I'm going to mention that there's something to be hopeful for. If Ime kicks his ass into doing what he's supposed to do and not taking hero shots, then he's golden. If he does the same sh*t he did at Memphis then that sucks.

damn man this is starting time scare me. no wonder Tillman wasn't all 100% in when asked what kind of job is Raffy doing. Udoka gave a similar answer IIRC. Rockets don't make a big improvement and Raffy is out after the season

Sorry but this should be grounds for immediate termination. Obviously he's got more emotion than business sense. Not something you want to see in a GM.

Look, I get it, you're a player first type fan...you don't have to keep confessing to that through projection. If Brooks was merely "Stone's man" and Udoka didn't want him, he'd have told Stone not to get him....and he wouldn't have guaranteed a starting job to a terrible player. I know it doesn't go along with the way you view the world, but Brooks being a problem has nothing at all to do with ANY other player. Cut KPJ tomorrow and Brooks being on the roster and guaranteed a starting job is still a problem because he's a mindless chucker who demands to be featured in the offense despite his absolutely pathetic 49% TS.

When it comes to Lopez, of course I was fine with him starting....he's a REALLY good player on both ends of the court. The two situations have nothing at all in common.

I cant fathom a world where a brand new coach with championship experience who is being tasked with turning around a laughingstock of a franchise would not get his say in player acquisitions ESPECIALLY if Brooks was not an "Udoka" guy to begin with. Dillon Brooks will be our version of Robert Williams. Overpay for sure, but "we need to reach the salary floor".

TBF, Morey did that pretty frequently, but at least they were star players…and he almost never actually got them, so he was saved from himself.

Considering the salary inflation, is Brooks really a worse contract than Ryno?

IMO the problem with the Ryno contract was more a team construction issue. Ryno made 3’s at a good clip playing the 4, and pretty much did nothing else, but that’s exactly who he was before, during and after getting the Rockets deal. The problem was him being our intended second scoring option with such a limited game.

Not profound to say I think Brooks was an overpay, but remains to be seen if it winds up being something we have to pay multiple draft picks to move off of.

Given that there was competition for Ryno and not really for Brooks (at least that we know of) I would say the Brooks contract looks a bit more of a gamble at the time of signing. "At the time of signing" being the key phrase here.

It really isn't but everyone hates Brooks and just can't get past that. Plus, everyone is just shocked at the amount of money players make and are stuck on what players of Brooks caliber use to be paid.

I'm no fan of Brooks, really wished he wasn't our target but I hope it works out I guess. It does seem like Stone did some ridiculous amounts of moves for nothing though. I wasn't exactly attached to any of the future SRPs or former FRPs he sent out, but he sure does look stupid sending out all those players for nothing. He could have signed the players he signed without having to send all that money out, or at least gotten pretty close to it. Also seems like he negotiated against himself on the Brooks deal from what been reported thus far.

I did defend him by wanting to let the dust settle, but yeah, in typical Stone fashion since he took over, his plan seemed very underwhelming, and almost a scramble after Brook Lopez told the Rockets no.
