Young teams need a coach who is considered a teacher once they learn how to win then its ok to have a players type coach.
Yep, because its about the bottomline, Trae and others paid like him bring in more $$$ via jersey/ticket sales etc. currently for the franchise and those teams have more invested in those players contractually as well, nobody is coming to the arena to watch coaches huddle up and talk, they are coming to watch Trae etc. And it only works for young budding stars or players in their prime
Lucas is in a perfect position where can do no wrong while Silas takes all the blame for anything that goes wrong. My hope is the organization doesn’t want Lucas or Hollins as the lead. The thought is why? we are getting their services already. Silas is weak and staff is already doing the job. This is why I as saddened when they brought up Coach Fat from the Vipers for the same reason. IMO, Silas (and Porter no other coach is going to use him like this) are place holders till next season. We need to thank Silas for Green and Smith, because Silas’s victories come on draft night. Silas will get short stent next year (no benefit for keeping him around). Then hopefully Coach Fat takes over as interim. If he can’t find quick success then hire Sam Cassell if he still available. Lucas is not head coach worthy ask the Spurs and Sixers. He is a wonderful co - coach.
KPJ flying out to Las Vegas after his High Salary during the season and missing games. Hopefully that it never happens, His Girlfriend is a keeper, a WNBA Player, which is great for him.
Abdul Fattah is very interesting. I wish we can see him Coach midseason, he is from Chicago and Background is Palestine. Talk about toughness, Abdul Fattah is quite loud on the sidelines when he draws up plays. KPJ to KJ Martin Alley Oop started out with the Vipers. Abdul Fattah Coached KPJ and KJ, Daishen Nix almost the MVP in the G League.
Yes, you often see disciplinarian coaches come out of college ranks that end up going back to the college game with their tails between their legs. Calipari being one of them. Bobby Knight knew that in college you can pull a kids scholarship....you have leverage. In the NBA, you might get choked out like Carrisimo. Kawhi leaving Popovich just holding his junk and barely sniffing the playoffs after. @Nook Was David Blatt a good coach? He did well in international leagues. Got booted out on his backside shortly after his NBA start. Players tend not to quit on Assistant coaches.....but head coaches get canned. Christian Wood stopped hitting 3's last year and got Theis out as a starter and almost costed Silas his job after game 9 of the season last year. Wood is no top notch star. Ultimately power by the head coaches is just an illusion. Nerlens Noel couldn't put up with Thibs and they clashed often. Many a team have quit on Thibs and his authoritarian style. JVG wouldn't have trouble nowadays with that style as well. Kawhi, Rudy Gay. DeRozan, DeJounte Murray, Lonnie Walker have all said they had to get away from Popovich recently. Spurs are trying to get Lonnie Walker back.....doubt he feels the same.
They run the Silas system with the Vipers + Abdul Fattah is with the team currently. He is free to be as vocal as he wants,,..G league players are often barely holding on to a dream of making it in the NBA. NBA players will tell you to go get F'd. Nick Nurse is being called Nick Nursery this year by people around the league. Another team struggling..,..ever since Nurse sat Scottie Barnes downs and criticized his effort. Players will get a coach fired or destroy a team internally.
People really don’t listen to players - they say Silas is a hard critic but he finishes it with something positive. Just cause he’s not screaming and stomping on the sideline doesn’t mean he isn’t tough on players. We have alot of young talent and you have to manage each personality differently. He’s clearly hasn’t lost the locker room… just fans who wanted to goto the playin or fav player isn’t getting the amount of minutes they think they should.
I like Lucas but he still just a life coach or mental/shooting coach for me. The problem is this organization doesn't realize that having a great coach or at least very good coach can impact the young ones.... or they are simply ignoring the facts. Of course you got to pay them decently.
Bingo !! KPj........ : 19.3 pts...5.8 Ast...5.4 rebs Brunson : 20.2 pts...6.6 Ast...3.2 rebs Brunson has played PG all his life.....makes $27.7 million Knicks are 24th in assists..... currently seeded as the dreaded 8th.....CF's quoted "NBA purgatory" currently 18-18 (.500)....8 more wins than us (Rockets pushing trade value of EG, Nix, others over wins) OMG!! They (Knicks) need a screamer on the sidelines....?one more than Thibs? It's all about Sengun
The lack of accountability from Silas is the most damning thing. You can't have a "good cop" coach with a "bad cop" assistant. The HC needs to be the authoritative voice. He needs to set the standard. Silas doesn't hold these players accountable. The players treat Silas like students treat a "substitute teacher" in class.
Sengun, Martin, Christopher, Eason & Garuba may think differently. While Porter, Nix (up until a week ago) Green, Mathews, Gordon, & Smith can do no wrong. Is all about prospective.
John Lucas, who re-joined the Rockets seven years ago, working in player development, then as an assistant coach, is changing positions again, this time moving to the front office where he will be a special assistant to Rafael Stone
