Dusty gave the Rangers so much momentum for the 2nd half of the season....... Watch we'll remember this game
Yesterday in a move completely out of character Dusty pulled Dubin on time. Today he was back to letting a starting pitcher go far too long, it happens constantly with Dusty.
Dubin isn't a starting pitcher in the majors - he's been used mostly as a long reliever and he was an emergency starter, so he was treated like it. Dusty keeps his SPs in longer because he's trying to not get his bullpen killed. It may or may not work out, but using your bullpen for 6 or 7 innings every day is a good route to failure in the long-run. Despite fans panicking, the Astros (front office and manager) still have to keep their eye on the big picture, and I suspect they are still approaching the season looking at it as "how do have the best possible team in October" over "how do maximize our chances of winning today?" It's a philosophy that may backfire if they miss the playoffs, but it's served them well the last 6 years.
I guess I just kinda feel like maybe we should give the Houston Astros the benefit of the doubt...I don't know...
These are the types of buffoonery games coaches are paid to not make. You play to win the game. The first few runs were fine, but it's obvious to the entire world it's time to move on from Javier. Just like Montero, Gutsy is going to continue to pound sand. This team does not have the luxury of letting a few games go due to his absolute ass hattery.
No kidding. On this particular topic, most of the bullpen was used both of the last 2 days and more 3 of the last 4 days. Who knows who's even available at this point tomorrow. I'm sure people here would have been thrilled if they pulled Javier out earlier and had to run Montero out towards the end of the game. As is: Pressly, Abreu, Neris, and Maton pitched 3 out of 4 including the last 2 days. They might all be unavailable tomorrow. Outside of Stanek, who pitched 2 of the last 3, they are left with scrubs for tomorrow (with Bielak starting!) or will be killing key arms. And yet people want Dusty to keep pulling his starters earlier?? It's insanity.
Yeah, we're 3 GB of the lead after winning 2 WS in the last 5 seasons. We need to make sure we move on from the pitcher who pitched a ****ing no-hitter in the WS because we can certainly replace that guy immediately. I blame Dusty. jesus christ, have you guys ever watched baseball before??? wtactual****??
The Houston Astros organizational people, the ones that actually make us good, didn't hire Dusty Baker. Jim Crane did, on the strong suggestion from MLB. Jeff Luhnow didn't hire him, James Click sure as hell didn't want him, and Dana Brown was saddled with him and has already had to voice some grievances in public because Dusty won't play the right players.
I guess I just kinda feel like maybe we should give the Houston Astros the benefit of the doubt...I don't know...
Hinch was routinely keeping his AAAA starting pitchers in "too long" in 2017 too (along with throwing out AAAA relievers in tight games and sacrificing them) when everyone was injured - and for the exact same reasons to save the bullpen from overuse. It's just a basic understanding of how to navigate a baseball season without killing all your players. It feels like Astros fans have gone insane and in the mania to hate Dusty have forgotten how baseball is played. People routinely complain when Dusty doesn't play injured players. You complain about Dusty starting certain people, then say you don't care if he starts them in other situations, then complain when he does that too. You complain when he plays his crappy bullpen players, but then also when he plays his starters too long. I'm sure Pressly and Abreu would do great pitching 100 games a year.
they've lost their minds because winning came really easy all of a sudden. zero perspective on the history of the franchise or the long game at all. win now and immediately and then you should have won yesterday. spoiled af. makes this entire forum a huge drag, honestly, as a lifelong fan. i've been blocked and shunned and banned for making fun of the pessimists. whatever. baseball's hard and the people in charge have forgotten more about it than any one of this in this forum will ever know.
