    So do we have 21 million (if Tate has a new home) or 4 million left to spend? I know we only have 1 or 2 roster spots remaining but just trying to keep my expectations in check.

    Assuming Mills, KMJ, Garuba and TyTy get combined into a Brooks SnT, then it works like this:

    We’ll have:
    • $12.5m capspace if we use the Room Exception on Jeff Green
    • $14.5m capspace if we, instead, use the Room Exception on Landale. (This requires Landale accepting slightly less salary in first year…like just a few 100k less.
    • Then add Tate’s salary to either of those, if we can find a salary dump for him, e.g., into someone’s TPE.

    Tate seems like the kind of player Ime would like--tough defender, versatile, gives the bench a different set of skills, and he's pretty cheap. However, if it gets us Grant Williams or Zubac then maybe that's the play.

    He made 11.4m last season. 12-15m was the comfortable number floated here prior.

    Personally speaking, the way he departed the Grizz starting offer could even have been lower. Was there even another team out there Rockets was competing to get his services.

    The overpay was also in the number of years, 4 instead of 2 or 3. 4th yr doesn't just bleed into Green/Sengun's extension but Tari and Jabari's as well.

    That flip is a real head scratcher.

    Mills fits a Rockets need and someone who can likely work well with Udoka.

    It is like the Rockets wanted Mills, traded for him and then 5 minutes later changed their mind.

    I don’t think we know, yet. Probably the 2nd (or similar) we got from absorbing Mills contact from the Nets.
    Mills is what creates the extra capspace you’ve been hearing about, because Mills+Josh+Garuba+TyTy salary matches the Brooks contract, meaning the entirety of the Brooks contract can be signed after using all our capspace.

    This is not to say the Garuba+TyTy trade isn’t bad, and didn’t need to be so one-sided. But that’s the purpose of Mills, to combine with a MEM SnT

    hey I’m all for that. Don’t have much confidence it will happen.

    On the Grant Williams thing, I just don’t think we addressed shooting this free agency, and I thought it was a critical weakness. At least Grant Williams helps our shooting while giving us another good defender. But but seems like a moot point now.
