Coach signing is an A Draft is a A+ (can I give it more?) Free Agency is a B+ (got two of their top three targets)
As it stands now, D. Could improve to a C depending on what other moves they make (if any). Would have already been a C without adding Dillon Brooks, a solid B if they replaced his contract with anybody who is above replacement level on both ends.
Poor FA pool. This is what it is. A Coach:Great choice A++ Rejecting Harden:A++ FVV:Best PG available. A Brooks: All Defensive player with downsides.I think Ime requested him. B Landale: Cheap 1 year rental. If he puts good work it will convert good asset B Consolidation:Get rid of mediocre(KMJ,JC,Garuba,Tyty) will give minutes for Amen and Cam. A
FVV for 2 years is an A for me. He’s someone who will be a huge benefit to the young guys, which is ultimately the most important thing. If the deal was 3 years, it would drop to a B- or so but at 2 it’s great. Brooks for 4/80 is an F (or F- if you want). He’s someone who I would consider a minimum contract level player who’s already 27, so the idea that he’s gonna change his entire game seems unlikely. Extremely low IQ player, and arguably the single most damaging offensive player in the league.
We’re not done yet, I refuse to believe we gave away 3 1st round prospects and a rotation piece for fresh air.
i give the signings a C-... FVV i give a B+ thanks to the to on the 3rd year... itd be a C otherwise... i think his contributions are going to extend beyond the stat sheet. Brooks i give a C- - a 2 year deal woulda been a B... 4 years fully guaranteed is a gamble... Landale i give a B- - idk about his ceiling, bit of an overpay imo - but what a team friendly contract w only 1 year guaranteed... Green i give a C obviously Alpha Kaba is an F... it was a salary dump for Lopez that didnt come to fruition... so its an F... so takeaway the Kaba trade while chasing Lopez... and itd be like a C+ to B-... which given the pool and the fact that nobodys leaving money on the table to come play for the Rox... and its a reasonable offseason imo... Plus add another shooter on a reasonable contract and Stone's flirting with a C+... add an A for the coaching hire... an A for the draft... and overall a pretty solid offseason imo.
In the U.S. D is still considered lowest passing Grade, but C is actually average. Could folks look in the mirror, including the ATL deal, and say the off-season moves was actually average? Currently I give it a D+. D+ instead of a D because of Jeff Green and Landale. If the team > 35 wins OR actually be in the play-in, I'll be happy to return and say I'm incorrect and the grade would be C+ or higher. To put it in perspective on projections: with teams who started to climb out of the hole last year. Magic had 34 wins and didn't qualify for play-in (close but no cigar) Thunder got 40 wins, made the playin but got bounced by the Wolves, so in the above success metric; OKC met both. -------------------------------------------- We're graded on a curve; team is good or bad relative to their peers. 30 NBA teams A - 6 teams B - 6 teams C - 6 teams. D - 6 teams. <- this is being kind / optimistic to say Rockets will finish among 18th - 24th in the league. F - 6 teams
overall grade = C FVV = A- Best available free agent point guard fit for our team. Had to overpay; 2-yr deal is great. Dillon Brooks = D He’s a really good defender, but the rest of his game is ass. 4yrs $80 mil is way too much. Jock Landale = B A good backup at reasonable money, with team control for 4 yrs Jeff Green = B- Dude is washed but will be good in the locker room; $6 mil definitely includes the loser tax Use of remaining cap space = INCOMPLETE Attaching 2nd rounders to move TyTy & Garuba = F Getting two 2nd rounders for Kj = C+
Your metric is kinda dumb tbh since Rockets started as one of the worst teams. To go from 2nd worst to 18-24th is a D?
D is passing, if they moved up to playin or 35 wins, it's passing. If they stay in the F tier then yes, this pivot year failed as they failed to pivot. They could try again next year, some students have to repeat grades. P.s. Tilman's patience is limited. ime is safe, but if the wins is like < 30 wins, it's very possible we could be looking for a new gm next summer. A dismissal is a F grade.
Not just in the US, in many countries as a matter of fact. In school I was not too sad getting Cs on occasions. Some exams are not that easy, those that you are not acing in your sleep. I am particularly high on the Magic and Thunder. Thunder have good overall construct of a team. Magic have so many bigs that can create. If they get their dream guard, scary for the league.
