Dumping three first round draft picks on rookie deals to clear salary for Dillon Brooks is not a good look for Stone. I wouldn’t have a complaint if we had gotten a better return; but for Dillon Brooks?! Come on now. The fact that Stone dumped them so quickly is a clear sign he regretted drafting them. A clear waste of limited draft capital.

Green, Smith, Amen at the top. Took the BPA. All 3 have stardom potential. That's a win.

Sengun, Eason mid round and both look to be at least rotation players. That's a win.

Whitmore, Christopher, Garuba and Washington in the late round. Whitmore could be a homerun and the other 3, as late round picks, should not have been inspiring a ton of hope for stardom. Looks to be swings and misses though but basically should've been expected. He also got KJ Martin with a 2nd round flyer.

Seems like a pretty decent track record, although picking good players from the top of the draft shouldn't be overly applauded.

I was under the impression that you needed to make a good draft selection to be a good drafter.

I guess Sengun and Eason qualify as outpacing their selection spot so far though

i'm not all that enamored with his draft selections... imo he has simply taken bpa... so i aint gonna praise him for the selections - but at least he didnt totally screw em up by reaching..
that said, late first rounders and 2nd rounders... are typically longshots regardless...
tossing the 'assets' to pursue a less than done deal (ala Bosh) is the real issue... just like having to include a frp to move Lin... i think all these moves are about trying to make moves at the wrong time - and paying for it...
I mean realistically... i think Tyty woulda garnered us a srp (instead of costing one) were we to have moved him at about any juncture before or after the free agency frenzy where everyone is trying to protect any dollar of capspace to pursue bigger game... imo

Right Dillon Brooks has playoff success and is a winner. The issue here is believing the twitter bs and hate from Lebron fans that try negate him as an all nba defender and a dog. He's a guy who can show these young kids how to toughen up and play NBA defense which has been our biggest problem the last few years. Its best coming from people still in their prime. So that they can actually show them on the floor. When we got Dennis Jalen literally watched him play and became so much better at choosing his spots just from watching him. Imagine what he will learn from Fred and Dillion and I believe the Rockets wanted Sengun to learn from Lopez. In order to get these guys you have to pay them because they can just go somewhere else and have a better shot at a title. Meanwhile you keep money on the books so when its time to extend the guys its there. The Rockets have done the best job with what they have. Crying about it is like a petulant teenager angry because daddy cant buy him a new car.

I applaud Stone for signing VanVleet, Landale, and Green, but Brooks was a massive overpay. Who else would’ve given him that money? It’s disappointing that Stone just wasted draft capital like that which could’ve been used better.

Half of the 1st rounders barely turn out to be role players let alone franchise players. Like even chances of getting a franchise player from top 5 is not that high.

2020: Wiseman, Okoro, Patrick Williams (3 out of 5)
    2018: Bagley
2017: Fultz, Josh Jackson (2 out 5 and even Lonzo didn't end up being that guy)
2016: Simmons, Bender, Dunn (3 out of 5)
    2015: Hezonja, Okafor (2-5)
    2014: Exum and Parker (2-5)
2013: Len, Zeller, Bennett, Otto (4-5)
    2012: Kid-Gilchrist, Waiters, Thomas Robinson (3-5)
2011: Derrick Williams, Enes, Thompson, Valenciunas (4-5)
2010: Evan Turner, Derrick Favors, Wesley Johsnon (3-5)

Injuries altered some of their development yes but at the end of the day still finding that guy, that franchise cornerstone is extremely low. Like you barely have 40-50% chance of getting that dude. Odds increasingly gets worse after 5. Stone did fine.

Can't wait to hear the contract details. Hard to believe it would be 4 guaranteed years of $20MM.

Its not about who else would've given him the money its about him going somewhere else. The reason he came here is the money. KJ btw got a pass on this board for his horrible defense which somehow Sengun got all of the blame for despite being one of our best by the numbers I believe only Tari Eason was better. But in truth KJ and Jalen are two of the worst defenders in the league. You cannot have two guys getting significant minutes like that and expect to win more than 30 games. GMs can look at stats and KMJ's value is based on that.

A lot of the draft is just luck, but with the most important picks thus far (2 and 3) the Rockets don't appear to have gotten even arguably the second or third best player in the draft class.

Also by - once again - putting out via friendly media relayers that they think Amen Thompson is the best non Wemby prospect - Stonetitta is setting out another box of banana peels like Daishen being a lotto pick and other such own goals, though i guess this is possibly Stone's last pitch of the night so who cares i guess.

Too early to call on the top draft picks.

Tari and Sengun were both good pickups at their spots in the draft.

Picks 20-60 are a total crapshoot and it's very hard to find useful talent that late.

I generally don't have a problem with your pessimistic view of the team, it's not the way I generally think, but it's fine. But I do think you're rushing to judgment too much on draft classes that are very much not in the books. In 2019, Ben Simmons was the league's next great superstar and Lauri Markannen was being called a bust.

Let's wait and see how things pan out over the next couple years. We're only around 1/8 to 1/3 of the way through our team control years on our most important prospects.

Stone drafts well. Silas didn't play the young players to up their value.

SIlas was such a bad coach everyone thinks the talent on the rockets is bad.

Its not the GM it was silas being an ass coach.
