LOL the Mets would take this deal in a heartbeat and they’d laugh at the highway robbery they just committed. JV had TJ, was injured for a long stint this season already, and he’s 40 now all while being paid over $40M annually. Oh and he’s got an ERA above 4 with a significant K/9 decline…J.P. France has been better than him. So in what world is he “as valuable now as he was in 2017”?!?!? And regardless, what “top prospects” did we give up in the original JV trade?
I would consider Diaz and McCormick for Robert. But since I think he's the catcher of the future I probably wouldn't do the deal. Lee and Gilbert plus Gordon is my starting point for Robert.
Mets should give us their top prospect or 2 and some dough to take away JV for them. Don’t buy JV hype anymore guys. Montero contract already bad enough to give us ulcers.
I have mad respect for you SD, but his trade is a massive overpay for aging players. I wouldn’t even do it for just Diaz and France. France is out pitching JV this year and is incredibly valuable as a young controllable rotation pitcher. Diaz should have been in the conversation for ROY if it wasn’t for a senile hater manager.
Roberts is a top 3 CF with elite power and above average defense. He has 4 years left on a very friendly contract. There's no universe you're getting him without Diaz at a minimum. You folks don't live in reality
I don't mean to say or imply that players on the 40 man roster have no value. However players who have been on the 40 man for multiple years and due to either poor performance or injury can not make it to the big leagues, are much much less valuable that most others. The team accepting them is giving up a proven commodity in exchange for, essentially, an albatross around their neck.
It reminds me of the folks begging for harden to return. What are these people smoking ? Seriously. Where's the good **** at
They live in the past. If JV was never on this team or if Harden was never on the Rockets they would go insane at these proposals calling anyone who suggested them dumb. Probably the same people who would take their ex SOs back without hesitation…
Since May 1st, Robert Jr. is hitting .302/.362/.656 (1.018 OPS, 175 wRC+) across 214 plate appearances… This board: “At most I would give them the #90 prospect and a couple other decent prospects that aren’t even in the top 150!”
Even though this is my idea, I really like Diaz and this trade would not be one I would jump for joy over. But I do think it improves the team significantly this season, sells high on several assets, and addresses all of Houston’s roster holes without damaging the farm. But like I said I really like Diaz so I totally understand not liking the trade.
No offense but are you being held hostage or are you under the influence? Are you seriously talking about trading Diaz for ****ing Verlander? Have you been kidnapped?
If the Mets eat $25M of his contract (as I listed in my hypothetical trade) and include Jeff McNeil, yes.
And regardless, what “top prospects” did we give up in the original JV trade?[/QUOTE] Regardless of how they panned out or not, they were top prospects. Franklin Perez (55 grade). Astros #3 and MLB #46 overall Daz Cameron(50 grade). Astros #9 Jake Rogers(50 grade) . Astros #11. That would be equivalent to: Drew Gilbert(55 grade) 74 overall K.Lee (45 grade) Arrighetti (45 grade) + more
Then I'm holding onto Diaz and waiting on Gilbert. In the meantime I'm looking around for a vet rental bat/reliever and a Lynn level starter. Wonder what it would take to get Scherzer from the Mets?
I don’t consider Korey Lee, Arrighetti, Rogers, or Daz Cameron “top prospects” but to each their own. I also think Yainer Diaz will be by far the most productive MLB player out of all of them and that these prospect rankings are a joke sometimes.
Oh you went with the “lil fella” insult…oh what will I do! Others have asked if you’re drunk, got kidnapped, etc. so just wondering exactly which part of me calling out you’re RIDICULOUS trade proposal hurt your feelings? Taking back your ex?
