I keep waiting for the contract details to come out that will make the deal seem more palatable, but I am growing impatient. By the time I wake up tomorrow I expect to hear that the 3rd year is a Team Option.
Come on, Tyus jones is very good. He’s probably the best backup pg in the league. Don’t hate fvv, I hate the contract. There’s a limit to paying an undersized, 39 percent shooter who has a dubious injury history and already 29. He’s got the only max contract this off-season thus far
the underrated part about this pickup is that FVV is one of the most respected players in the league. That will go a long way these next few years. Hate to break it to you guys but players aren't exactly jumping for joy about Monte Morris or Tyus Jones.
I don't like the 3rd year. Fred got what he wanted otherwise he would be back in Toronto. The Rockets were desperate for a veteran PG. I'm okay with it as long as TF can sign JG and Alpi to the max when their extensions come up.
I browse on the realgm board now and then, the largest fanbase on the site are Raptor fans. When the 2/80 report came out they were clowning us insanely hard, and rejoicing that FVV would likely be off the team at that price, many posters said he's been playing selfishly and not helping the young guys develop I shet you not
He shot 34% on 3 last season, but has average 37% on 10.6 attempts on his career which is above league average. Just sayin'
Oh boy, everything always going exactly according to plan, per Rockets insider Kelly Iko - that's a real scoop as usual. My realistic expectation is that FVV improves the Rockets enough that - combined with regular curve growth, their o/u goes from 27 wins to maybe 31 and make the draft pick hit to OKC not be that bad Can't wait to read the article on how that was the plan all along and the attempt to erase the Harden chase and make Phase 2 not be about playoffs but just growth.
FVV was the best free agent this year. Of course he got the only max contract thus far. It's just comical how for 3 years Rockets fans wanted veterans and leadership and upgraded point guard play and shooting and then they go and hire a good coach who identifies FVV who fits each of those needs and now fans are mad because they had to pay a little extra to compensate for being the worst team in the league to attract actual free agents. I just don't really know what some of y'all expected. Were y'all expecting to sign Luka Doncic?
I'm ok with FVV signing, we needed shooting pretty badly. But I would Def prefer Schroeder and Poetl, the two guys Raptors replaced him with.
I missed the earlier Jalen thing. What was it? Could someone at least describe it since the video is now dead?
Supposedly Harden was the plan until we hired Udoka. Udoka preferred Van Vleet so the Rockets pivoted. We had already heard Stone say on record weeks ago that he can go out and get a player with all the talent in the world but it doesn't help if that player doesn't play the way Udoka wants to play.
Everyone knows we are desperate. It doesn’t reek that insinuates it’s not obvious…it is the cost of being a laughing stock. What this actually reeks of is hope. FVV isn’t just about money despite how this appears. No one that has been underestimated their whole career..not recruited, not drafted, not athletically gifted…but still becomes an All-Star and wins a ship. That kind of drive doesn’t just go away cause you got a max deal. He must believe in Ime and find value in the challenge of leading our young guys. If he manages to lead a culture change and the young guys follow, his contract will be a bargain.
I saw it. It appeared to be an old video of Jalen and Josh in their AAU days horseplaying in a pretty sexual manner. They were laughing about it and there were other people in the room laughing as it was taking place. It wasn't a big deal. p.s. I wouldn't care if they were gay either.
[ I pretty much expected the Rockets to strike out on Harden and have to overpay to fill space abd just do.... something. Honestly this is better than the worst possible scenario which was basically just "run it back", but imo a Harden powered Rockets team probably improves more next year than an FVV one does.
