Doesn't change what I think of Robert. His presence in the locker room is not something I would like to have on my team.
His presence in the locker room? Am I missing something? I don’t remember ever seeing anything about him being a bad locker room guy. I have to imagine the locker room would respond EXTREMELY well to the team adding a player of his caliber.
Glad I’m not the only one dumbfounded by this… dude is acting like it’s Marcell Ozuna we are talking about here. He’s also Cuban and speaks the language predominantly spoken by this team…pretty sure he would fit in better than any of our current OFers if we are being honest lol
Gilbert, McCormick and Lee would be a heck of a start for Luis Robert's. Js. I don't think it would be enough but it would be pretty close. Diaz isn't going anywhere. This is Maldys last year with the Astros. Sorry but I don't see him staying with us.
Yes, in part. That is indicative of what I have heard about his demeanor in general. May be a problem, maybe not but we are flush with outfielders and I just do not see a need to take a chance.
The Rangers got Chapman cheap. Wonder if the market isn't quite as hot as some would like you to believe it is?
Time will tell, the Royals got an extremely young prospect they may love even if the rating services dont yet. A few years back the Dodgers got Josh Fields for a similar cheap price.
Flush with average to above average OFers…who don’t have a shot at a 40 HR season last time I checked. Outside of Tucker, the 23 HR he’s already hit this season might be more than any of their career highs end up being honestly. He probably wouldn’t have even been benched for not hustling had the team not had gotten off to such a bad start. FYI there are a bunch of guys on our current team that aren’t busting it every time out. That’s not to mention some of the awful baserunning we’ve seen from this team recently. If he’s going to hit 40+ bombs, drive in and score 100+ times, and play elite CF defense…he can walk to 1B for all I care.
We don't have an everyday outfielder that hits in the 900s OPS. I don't consider Yordan an everyday outfielder. If he's available, we trade anyone in our farm for him. He's a sure thing and young.
Astros get: IF/OF Jeff McNeil DH Dan Vogelbach SP Justin Verlander RP Brooks Raley $25M Mets get: C Yainer Diaz OF Chas McCormick SP JP France IF/OF Pedro Leon RHP Spencer Arrighetti RHP Enoli Paredes Playoff roster: 2B Altuve LF McNeil 3B Bregman DH Alvarez 1B Abreu RF Tucker SS Pena CF Meyers C Maldonado Bench: Dubon, Lee, Vogelbach, Julks Rotation: Framber, JV, Brown, Javier Bullpen: Pressly, Abreu, Neris, Maton, Raley, Montero, Stanek, Blanco, Urquidy
It feels light. Verlander is as valuable as he was in 2017 and he got 3 top prospects alone. If you recall there were questions about a down season. And the mileage on his arm even then. Vogelbach and Raley are JAGs just worth a couple of lottery tickets but McNeil is worth 2 legitimate prospects on his own. Paredes might as well not be in the deal he no longer has any value. Add a couple of lower top 10 guys like Misael Tamarez and Joe Perez and maybe the Mets consider this. Maybe.
Your idea that you keep repeating that players Houston is carrying on the 40 man roster have no value seems really silly. If guys like Whitley or Paredes had no value they would have been DFA long ago. Verlander signed a free agent deal with the team who was willing to pay him more than any other team; by definition at that point he had no surplus value, and he is now half a year older and hasn’t performed that well. Considering the market I do think he probably has some surplus value but not much; the $25M I have the Mets eating is all that justifies the return. McNeil is a really good player but he is having a slightly down year and he is on a moderate contract that is a bargain but not a steal. The prospect package is: 2 big league rookies who have performed like a MLB Top 10 catcher and a #3 SP, a solid everyday CF with 4 more years of control, the Astros best pitching prospect, the Astros highest ceiling position player prospect (whose stock is down), and an upside lotto reliever.
Between JV + McNeil that's 53 million in payroll next yr. As I mentioned previously you have Brantley/Neris/Stanek/Maton coming off the books which is probably Between 20-25 million so you're adding 28-33 mil in additional salary next yr plus ARB bumps for Framber and Tuck which puts them above the luxury tax which is fine if Crane is willing to do this. So far he's said he's been willing to do this (pay luxury tax) but he's yet to do it. Again as I said I'll believe it when and if I see it.
What about Gleyber Torres for Chas McCormick? Torres could be our super infield utility Pass Verlander wanted out F him. Stay out. Diaz ain't going no where
Gonna be a big no f**king way from me on giving up Chaz and Diaz for that pupu platter of old age, high salary and inconsistency.
Where would Astros be without Diaz (DH while Yordan out) and JP France (stabilized the #4 spot in the rotation although his W/L records doesn’t show it) this year. We need to hold on to our young MLB-ready starting pitchers and spend the money elsewhere.
They don’t want the 25 yo Luis Robert, his 23 HR and 98% percentile OAA in CF all while making less than JV alone over the next 4 years combined. Instead, let’s take on all that salary for a 40 year old with an ERA above 4, who was trash in the playoffs last year (and has been in the WS throughout his career), Jeff McNeil and his .670 OPS, a middle reliever and the fat ass every Mets fan has been begging to be DFA’d on Twitter this season. The combined WAR of all those players doesn’t even add up to Robert this season. LOL this board is wild sometimes.
