Again, though, I don't understand why you couldn't start Amen, Green and FVV together in a year or two if Amen is ready. The Rockets played two point guards on the floor in Harden and Paul, and neither of them had Amen's length. A 1-3 of FVV, Green and Amen could totally work down the line, and FVV has played off ball in his career. I don't worry too much about whether Amen will get playing time or not. If he's ready, they'll find minutes for him somewhere.
This is a terrible contract… clutchfans will turn on this guy before the all-star break. Paying him elite money when he literally does nothing at an elite level is a joke.
Contextually, it’s not a massive overpay though. The money has to be spent and if there’s no one appealing to spend it on, why not reach to pay your guy?
it’s funny cause they cite his % but want Amen to start who is arguably the worst shooter in the league at his position
Not at all because FVV and Lopez being added to this team doesn’t get us in the playoffs, we are still a terrible team just with much less flexibility.
I don't understand how y'all are complaining. FVV was t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶t̶a̶r̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶p̶o̶i̶n̶t̶ ̶g̶u̶a̶r̶d̶ a crucial sixth man on a championship team. He's a really good floor general. Of course it took a slight overpay to get a player like that to come to what's been the worst organization in the NBA over the last few years. You can't complain about a lack of development for Jalen Green, Sengun, Jabari, etc. and then complain when we pay what it takes to bring in a great leader who will teach them what it means to play as a unit on the floor. Udoka and FVV are exactly what this team needed. This is also the NBA. The final year of any contract is expendable and becomes an asset. Think of this as a two-year deal with flexibility in year three.
Unfortunately, the incentives run the other way. If Stone doesn’t spend the money this year and we don’t win a lot more games, he probably gets the boot and never sticks around to spend the money more wisely down the line.
Because he's a mid at best PG and you are now stuck with him for 3 years at over 40 mil a year. Just because you have to spend money doesn't mean you have to spend it on REALLY bad contracts.
What would you have done instead? PG was a position of need. If not FVV, we'd have to pursue D'Angelo Russell. The overpay was necessary to get him from Toronto.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/v/vanvlfr01.html Half his shots are from 3 so the other half is from 2 and he is still only 40% chucker.
Nobody cares about previous championships What did he do last year? Not even the playoffs Harden would’ve been better for the money
