And that is exactly why the starters for Sun and Mon have not been decided, or at least announced, yet. I sure hope they figure it out and do something now
Dubin last pitched in Javier’s last start, so my guess is if they skip Javier they will give Dubin that start and hope he goes 4 innings. Good thing is the BP should be 100% fresh after last night.
Dubon in for Pena at SS is interesting coming into a big series. Dusty may be showing more trust in Dubon at this point.
The second half of the season starts tonight. Looking for plenty of Astro offense, otherwise this series could be a problem.
I don't have an issue with Dubon for Pena. He has easily been as good overall, but why hit him 6th? He is lots of things, but not a run producer. He needs to be 8th
From CBS Fantasy..... Pena is absent from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Rangers, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. It appears to be a routine day of rest for Pena, who will put a modest five-game hitting streak on hold. Mauricio Dubon is getting the start at shortstop.
It's just head scratching all around. Dubon is a good utility player but him playing for Pena in this spot is surprising to me unless Pena is currently hurt or sick like he was a couple of weeks ago. Pena is streaky but appears to be going into one of his good streaks lately. Just interesting.
Just seeing this before my last post. Anther plan day of rest huh...okay. Hope Dubon has a good game then. The Astros really believe in a lot of rest this season.
Agreed. Well, maybe not entirely. I'd rather see Pena playing then Dubon, regardless of the situation. So unless Pena is slightly injured it's an odd decision. If it's a scheduled rest day this is the series where that should probably go out the window. I definitely agree that Dubon probably shouldn't be 6th. The thing w a lot of Dusty's decisions is that they often fly in the face of conventional wisdom.
The old man can't do it. He just can't put the death lineup out in the opening game of the biggest series of the year to this point. Are the rangers resting any regulars?

Nope. The only player among their 9 most played in June who is missing is Garver. Garver has had a .445 OPS the past 2 weeks so replaced with Jankowski who has an .887 June and 1.040 the past 2 weeks
I just... I've tried so hard to give Dusty the benefit of the doubt that he's had some hidden plan, however misguided, to which we're just not privy. Yet, at this point, I can't help but feel that his lineup decisions might not actually be based on anything baseball related at all. Is he trying to make a point? Does he have withheld resentment over something? Is he holding a grudge of some kind? If so, what the hell is going on? I just... I don't know how much longer my ever-crumbling faith to which I'm desperately clinging can last. Ok, enough with the dramatics. Let's do this, boys. GO 'STROS!
