In the US, the landlord of every one of those buildings would have been sued for these unsafe windows.
Yeah I don’t really know why Greta Thunberg is there or this should be news. Ukraine winning the war would be the best thing that could happen to the climate out of this.
How would that be the best thing for climate? its more significant to removing the vast majority of ICE vehicles and coal power plants? Sounds like a Biden pitch to keep the war going indefinitely.
[Kiev Independent] WSJ: US close to approving ATACMS for Ukraine I would.have linked the original Wall Street Journal story directly, but it's behind a pay wall.
This was a workplace dispute Kremlin style. Wagner's contract for Ukraine was ending on July 1. Shiogu and Gerasimov planned to not renew that contract but instead absorb the Wagner troops into the Russian military. This had been known for months. Shiogu has his own PMC that's involved in the Ukraine invasion too. Prigozian doesn't have the power or influence to take over and run the Kremlin. He needs Putin there to write his cheques and to not have everything he owns taken away from him. Putin needs Wagner for his African diplomacy efforts. Several African leaders are keepinfg themselves in power and battling insurgents like ISIS with Putin/Russia supplied Wagner troops. These African nations pay for Wagner's services through their natural resources like mining. Putin is very reliant on these African mines right now because of sanctions. These mines are apparently providing him a workaround.
She could be useful to the Ukraine government's Western PR. The destruction of the dam caused a massive ecological and economic disaster for Ukraine. The West had some outrage, but it probably wasn't equal to how big a disaster it really was. Thunberg can be a good spokesman for raising awareness of what an atrocity Russia committed in blowing up that dam.
exactly what it was about Greta Thunberg slams world response to dam collapse 'ecocide' during Kyiv visit | Reuters June 29 (Reuters) - Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg visited Kyiv on Thursday to draw attention to environmental damage caused by war in Ukraine and criticized the world's response to the June 6 collapse of the vast hydro-electric Kakhovka dam. Ukraine is investigating the dam blast, which unleashed floods across southern Ukraine and Russian-occupied areas of the Kherson region, as a war crime and possible criminal environmental destruction, or "ecocide". It has estimated the cost of the dam's collapse at 1.2 billion euros. Kyiv and Russia have blamed each other for the dam's destruction. "I do not think that the world reaction to this ecocide was enough," said Thunberg, who was in Kyiv for the inaugural meeting of a new environmental group that also includes senior European political figures. "We have to talk louder about it, we have to raise awareness about what is going on," she said, according to a Ukrainian translation of her comments. The group is tasked with assessing the damage to Ukraine's environment and developing mechanisms to hold Russia accountable, said Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential staff and co-chair of the group along with former Swedish deputy prime minister Margot Wallstrom. The environment risks becoming the "silent victim of war" with about 30% of Ukraine's territory contaminated with explosive objects and over 2.4 million hectares of forests damaged, Ukraine's prosecutor general Andriy Kostin said in a Twitter post to mark the meeting. "We call for strengthening international efforts to investigate and prosecute Russia's war crimes against the environment and to ensure that the aggressor pays," he said. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy attended the meeting and thanked members of the group for their visit as an "extremely important signal of support."
if you're going to do it now, why not do it six months ago when it would have made a difference during the current offensive.
Matter of wordsmithery and perspective, in it? Many Americans like the idea of bleeding Putin dry if only for good ol payback but mainly to increase chances of an internal collapse. Wars of attrition are usually double edged. We don't want Ukrainian resistance to collapse but we don't want to directly hit Russia either for various reasons. On the surface, it looks to be a very cruel and amoral strategy from Washington though I'm not sure there are ever right answers with nuclear weapons in play.
This is a pretty good article. Americans Who Fought Putin Share ‘Horrifying’ War Surprises Quotes from the article: “The worst day in Afghanistan and Iraq is a great day in Ukraine.” “I look at these children, and I have my own child and niece and nephews. If that were a circumstance for them, I would hope people from all over the world would come and try to help keep them safe and protected as well,” Offenbecker said. “That’s what keeps me here.” “If we don’t get serious about how we think about Russia, and we don’t stop Russia here, the next step is… Belarus gets folded into Russia. Or Moldova gets folded into Russia. Ukraine gets folded into Russia,” Bramlette said. “Russia is a rabid dog. The Kremlin needs to get put down.” https://www.thedailybeast.com/forme...orrifying-surprises-of-russias-war-in-ukraine
Things like tanks and APC use a lot of gas. An active war zone makes it difficult to do things like build wind turbines and set up smart grids.
