They took it too far, justifying discrimination particularly towards Asian Americans is pretty ****ed up. an Asian American kid being told that no matter how hard he works chances are he’ll never get accepted into a school etc because of his/her race is pretty much looping around and reinforcing the discrimination AA sought to end
No, that racial makeup of the student body cannot factor in the admissions process because to do so violates the 14th Amendment. The racial makeup of the student body is irrelevant, constitutionally.
So then it would be fine if a school is 99% white? I mean if Asians and Blacks are overrepresented at Harvard then clearly they were not trying to hit some magic number.
Well this is a question of math. 1 is what percentage of 1000? 1 is what percentage of 100? One group applies more to these schools then the other one therefore if you are part of that group its less of a chance you get in. In sports terms...it's easier to make the NFL than it is the NBA because one sport has teams with rosters of 53 people and one sport has rosters of 15.
Not if the system doesn't discriminate based on race. How is it the Asian kid's fault what happened 200+ years ago? The system should be colour-blind, a meritocracy.
The thing is you're asking me to expect this country will be 'Color-blind' when even today if you have a black name it means you are less likely to get a callback from a job. This was based on a study in 2021, not 1931, so no...I'm not sure we're at a point where things can be color-blind. Civil Rights wasn't even more than a lifetime ago. The admissions are not race blind either, they will still mention race, and thus it'll still be thought about. As KBJ wrote... “The takeaway is that those who demand that no one think about race (a classic pink-elephant paradox) refuse to see, much less solve for, the elephant in the room – the race-linked disparities that continue to impede achievement of our great Nation’s full potential.” I think California should have been used as a warning sign, less blacks and hispanics went to college as a direct result of its removal. UC Berkley is a great example of what might happen around the country. Here's an article summarizing... https://www.latimes.com/california/...ion-as-the-worst-uc-campus-for-black-students Now this is a college in a liberal city that desperately wants more diversity and was worried that their black population of (then) 6% wasn't being represented because it was off by 3%. Like I said, the worry isn't going to be for schools like Harvard. They will actively try to bring in diverse classes...but that's not going to be every school. Since diversity can be ignored I think people are very naïve thinking that some places in this country won't happily ignore it. That 5% black population of Auburn (despite having a black population of 27%) might even drop. I mean this is a state that was trying to unconstitutionally strip away black voting power...in the year 2023...but I'm being asked to believe the country is color blind and completely past racism to accept this? I think the results will be that blacks and hispanics will see a fall in enrollment and we'll see who actually cares about racial equality again to try and fix it.
Exactly . If it were in some acceptable range it would be more tolerable. It’s not like they’re super wel to do etc, culturally they put more of an importance on it shouldn’t be punished /be made impossible to achieve something as a result of the aforementioned
Except that in the majority opinion they lay out where you could make that argument. And considering the 14th amendment should apply to everyone that means that It would apply to a diverse group of people.
Damn. We see what kind of white supremacist sites you hang out on. Look at the comments on that website. You're a ****ing scumbag and you keep proving it every day. "If I could read this I'd be angry as heck about it!- 75% of inner city job applicants" "Oh so this is what the purple lipped Messiah is broken hearted about." "A dumb black kid losing a university position to a smart Asian kid is a crime against humanity, it seems. Of course, making more smart black kids would mean changing how things work in inner city black schools." In reference to Michelle Obama "The woman whose only professional job was no-show, offers her racist take: -- Michael is probably one of the best examples of why AA should be pulled." "The idea that there are any young black kids in America who are applying to college and "overcame racism" is so laughable it is absurd." "Of course, making more smart black kids would mean changing every ****ing government official in inner city."
And did you read the whole opinion? ““At the same time, nothing prohibits universities from considering an applicant’s discussion of how race affected the applicant’s life, so long as that discussion is concretely tied to a quality of character or unique ability that the particular applicant can contribute to the university."
Just like "not every woman minds it when men dominate their sports competitions". Man, your arguments suck.
...and the sentence I quoted is *literally* the next sentence, followed by "What cannot be done directly cannot be done indirectly."
