No idea why they want to over pay for this low ceiling role player. Championship teams nurture and grow their role players not overpay them.

I don't think they care about his ceiling, they know he will come in and play defense and add some toughness that is lacking with these young guys. If Ime approves this move then he must believe he can get him to play the right way.

You know since defense is the priority regardless of anything else maybe we should go out and acquire Ben Simmons. If someone doesn't like it just say "defense and assists" over and over again.

Toughness is when you can show up to the press conference after you got both bbq'ed AND locked down for an entire playoff series by a player you consider old. Toughness is a mentality, it doesn't require media attention. Owning up and taking accountability is the tough part. Anyone can talk ****.

Considering Brooks is one thing, but prioritizing an immature prick who wants the spotlight and will chuck shots if he doesn’t get his way just seems like a slap in the face. We were so on the right track, and we trying to short circuit the rebuild with this moron.

They are prioritizing him because they think they can get him and because they view him as a depressed asset.
Without the antics, he would be one of the most sought after free agents.
He plays a position that is thin in the league right now.
I could see him getting a 4 year deal with some team control NG years in years 3 & 4.

If he has a wake up call, and becomes steadier with his shot selection, he's a very useful player.
Rockets have to spend a ton, so why not spend it on someone that might be reclamation project with upside?

I'd rather have Grant Williams. (Really, I'd try to get both and Pat Bev too. Fully lean in to being the team everyone hates to play.)
But I think the RFA thing isn't good for the Rockets.

In previous years of the CBA, they could wait for offer sheets to get decided, but with 60M to spend, I think they need to get commitments on 2/3 of it early. If they don't get FVV, Harden, or any other huge contract guys, I'm not sure how you spend 60M without cutting guys to make space.

If they throw offers at Reaves, Cam, Grant Williams, etc and those get matched, they may be left searching for something worth throwing money at.
While waiting on those offer sheets, guys like Brooks will be signing for the Mid Level with contending teams (Cle?).

So if they jump on the Brooks thing early, they probably get him.
FVV may be more desirable, but may take time to play out and probably ends with him in Toronto. (Otherwise what do the Raptors have left to run point with their duplicitous trio of almost-stars?)

Because you can spend that money on players who are what they are and don't have to improve to be worth their contract. It's really that simple. At his best, Brooks was not worth $25m. So what's the point of wasting time on trivial things like signing someone for $20m and making them worth $25m? If Brooks just repeats last season, do you understand he'll be worth $10m or less? Is that really worth taking on the most difficult project in the market?

We don't have to be anyone's savior. In overall production combining offense/defense/character, there are several comparable or better players than Brooks available to spend the money on. We need to improve the offense and the defense, we were near last in both. If we were a team over the cap and just needed a tiny bit more defense, this makes sense. For the Rockets, it doesn't make sense.

There's nothing Brooks can do that KJ cant, plus KJ is a better rim protector.

He is a devil worshipper who has a brain the size of a peanut. Would rather have any of our other 10 younger more athletic guys who can shoot above his pathetic 38% fg percentage.

I don’t even particularly like Brooks, but this is just flat out incorrect.

Dillon Brooks is an elite wing defender who made 2nd-team all-defense last year, whereas KJ doesn’t really play much D at all.
