Yeah, I know. It looks like he has his old swing back. It took 2 months and a lot of heartburn to correct it. I hopeful for a Abreu hot streak towards the end of the season assuming we make the playoffs. He completely capable of having an Alvarez type month or two.
740 would be a good finish considering how he started the season, but we need 800 seasons for a good signing. Had he signed for half his contract dollars, 740 would be more acceptable. Here's hoping he stays heated for the remaining duration.
At this point, assuming the reversion to his prior performance levels is sustainable, i think you have to write off those first 2 months. For sanity as much than anything. If he slugs .800 from June 1 til the end of the season and through the playoffs, that's still a win IMHO.
I agree if he has OPS of .800 the rest of the season, he is an. 800 PPS hitter going into the playoffs, not a .740 OPS guy, or whatever he ended the season at
It's a good signing if he maintains this and has one of his hot months when it counts. He's completely capable of having a high 900s month or two.
Abreu is paid to drive in runs in the middle of the order. Given that, this seems like a good sign (this includes the shitty part of his season): No one on base: 0.536 OPS Runners on: 0.724 OPS Runners in Scoring Position: $0.849 OPS RISP w/ 2 outs: 1.212 OPS (w/ a 0.420 BA) He's not hitting well overall, but when he needs to be at his best, he tends to be (for whatever reason).
Point is you stated the obvious after I already said it in my first post you quoted Abreu has a .822 OPS this month 800 was the target I said for a good signing
Thru June Abreu: 19 xbh, 41 rbi, .627 ops Yuli: 15 xbh, 16 rbi, .717 ops Bell: 24 xbh, 37 rbi, .712 ops Mancini: 14 xbh, 24 rbi, .663 ops Rizzo: 23 xbh, 37 rbi, .787 ops
If Abreu can just be league average at 1B, this lineup will be in great shape when we reach full health. Altuve 2B Pena SS Alvarez LF Abreu 1B Tucker RF Bregman 3B Brantley DH Y Diaz C McCormick CF Of course we know Maldy will be in there 80% of the time
If Abreu hadn't regained form we would be in some deep s**t right now, thankfully over the last month he's performing up to his contract.
