Javier is not a starter so not sure why this is so surprising. He was getting lit up at the beginning of last season too
He did great last year without Brent Strom. I think his arm is fatigued. Remember, he's never gone a full season as a starter. Last year, he began in the bullpen, got stretched out mid-May, and then returned to the pen in September (as a long reliever) so he could be fresh for the playoffs.
