I don't know about cutting off trade with Mexico, but I did read about Trump's plans to invade Mexico in the past. I've heard DeathSantis is promising more of the same now (like that's going to somehow stabilize Mexico and solve anything). I was more or less surprised to see Trump now promising to play whack-a-mole with the US Navy and drug cartels. Like warships, subs, and fighter jets are going to stop the flow of drugs into this country. or do anything to curtail demand..
I've never claimed our elections were "rigged" or our democratic process is "rigged." Spinning conspiracies and sewing doubt in our democratic institutions is wrong regardless if you're a Democrat or Republican. Trump's promises are meaningless, unless those promises are meant to put money into his pockets personally, or give him the power to change the system to make him an unlimited term President. Those are his two priorities. That's all he wants, besides attention. The rest of his jabbering is just meant to please the people who buy his Trump souvenirs and send him money, and to deceive the vulnerable into thinking he will make their life better.

A reminder for all those who believe Trump is so tough on Mexico. He revamped NAFTA and increased trade with Mexico. If Trump is reelected he's not going to deploy the US Navy to embargo Mexico. For one that would be an act of war also doing so would likely have big economic repurcussions that wouldn't be good for the US. This is more loose talk like "Mexico is going to pay for the wall". I don't think he even believes in such things but MAGA eats it up.
All politicians keep the promises that put money into their pockets or keeps them in power. Evangelicals love him because he put in things that didn't necessarily put money in their pocket but rather aligned with their interests like SCOTUS/abortion. They hold their noses while knowing about him cheating on Melania with a hooker paid with campaign financed hush money, his Epstein connection, his nepo children's bribes, etc... because they feel heard. Dismissing everything he does will ignore why certain folks still latch onto him. It also makes those groups feel ignored or unheard and latch onto Trump's populist message even more.
