Stone, Great head coaching hire! Great Draft! Now word is out that you're talking about bring in FVV and Dillion Brooks?? Everything was going so good! At best this is an average Free Agent Class and even if you have to spend money to reach the minimum NBA salary threshold, why on these two? Denver shown that length along the frontline wins and has always won, so why are you going against what wins? I'd rather Wood or Kuzma as a large SF and Patrick Beverly as a backup PG. I know none of the players are stars BUT neither is FVV and Brooks.
Maybe you don't see the purpose in this. FVV and Dillion Brooks are decent defensive players and yet you want Wood or Kuzma who are among the worst defensive players in the NBA? Defense wins, yet you seem to be interested in finesse. We need some guys who can show the 18,19,20 year olds the ropes and the importance of defense vs. individual acrobatics. Udoka will do his part but there needs to be some who have already bought into the value of that.
To be fair. VV was an an all star last yr. Has championship experience and would be a huge step up from what we've had. Biggest question with that option is that they just selected a point. How would that play out?
Just saw on HoopsRumors.com that the Rockets might drop a 2yr Max Contract offer in front of VanVleet. Please no!
2 year is doable and that's it. He becomes a valuable expiring contract after 1 year. It's not a big gamble
I love when people extrapolate based on one year. “Denver did it this year, so it’s the only way it can be done!”
In the playoffs, large teams win more times than not. Only small team that has won a chip is GS and that's because they had superior shooting.
I thought that was the sole purpose of Udoka was to teach the current players how to get to that point. I know having experienced players who have been there and done that weighs heavily but the right coach can change a players outlook. And when Udoka was in Boston, that team was filed with young vets who had never had success in the playoffs
This. It's not just about length; it's about defense. Wood and Kuzma won't help the young guys on that end of the floor—FVV and Brooks will. Also, they've clearly shown interest in Brook Lopez, but it sounds like he wants to go back to Milwaukee. Stone's showing an interest in adding size, and I wouldn't rule out that they're targeting other bigs aside from Lopez. I'm no Stone apologist, but the criticism of the players he's targeting in free agency makes zero sense to me.
Agreed. Plus it might be agreeable to him in that he's just 29 so he would still have time for another decent payday at age 31 in 2 years. Sign me up for a 2 year max. I want a good role model for Amen. One that can show him how to run a COMPLETE offense! 2-$80m - FVV + 2-$40m - Lopez That's 60m of our cap space and DOESN'T leave enough money left for Brooks! Perfect!
2 yrs? They have the room. Enough time for Amen to develop. Good locker room vet. If they can also get Lopez on a similar deal that would be ideal.
Brooks makes the other team's defense look really good too. Every miss he generates on defense, he gives right back on offense. Guy is a bricklayer and ball hog to the maximum degree. He'll teach out 20 year olds selfish, no self awareness basketball. I'm good with FVV on a 2 year max though.
I find it interesting that the Miami Heat are interested in signing Wood, who is a good defensive team but for some reason we are not. I think everyone knew Lopez was not coming here, it was a pipe dream. We, as Rocket's fans need to be realistic, this is a young team, with a losing roster the past 3yrs and recent players have talked down the organization. Players want to SEE the changes before they come. I think Wood could appreciate the recent changes, if offered a contract, so could Kyle Kuzma. Just my thoughts
No way you give the keys to the pg position to a guy who’s never played anyone outside of high school. Get FVV or just use KPJ for now.
A team like Miami can afford to add a Christian Wood because they play excellent team defense and can scheme around a poor interior defender. They need offense. They were 25th in ORtg last season and dead last in points per game. That question pretty much answers itself. The Rockets were 29th in DRtg last season, meanwhile. Adding Wood makes zero sense for the Rockets. They already got rid of him in favor of Sengun being the offensive-minded big in the lineup, and he clearly didn't mesh well with some of the other players on the roster.
Meh. Adding Brooks and FVV does not make us a “small team.” Smith is 6’11, as is Sengun. We’re probably adding another big body like Lopez. Eason is big. We’ll be fine.
