Or maybe outlets like ProPublica are spending all their time, effort and resources into investigating Conservative justices and not doing so for Liberal justices. We also, in this moment have a 6-3 conservative majority... one liberals hate.... no one wonder all these "investigations" are coming out now.... its an attempt to undermine the court, get Conservative justices to resign and reshape the court in their preferred image... who knows what unethical conduct is going on with liberal justices of the present or what unethical conduct occurred with liberal justices of the recent past
Why would you put investigations in quotes? Nobody has disputed their findings; it's all just spin and interpretation from various political leanings after-the-fact. And what if it's not a team-sports-type "attempt" and just the basic kind of journalism that any democracy needs for its own health? You think we're better off not knowing about questionable ethics in powerful public servants? I don't. Anybody in the judicial profession understands conflicts of interest. These people in the USSC just feel like they're too big to fail, above it all.
Out of curiosity do you think the Constitution is an infallible document and guide to life in America-- sort of like fundamentalists think the Bible or the Koran is?
What if it is a team sports type thing and ProPublica is only looking into conservative justices and only doing so at a time when there's a large 6-3 conservative majority. Would ProPublica be looking into justices like this with a 6-3 liberal majority? These are fair questions and the motivations of the investigators are fair questions. I doubt conservative justices being targeted for investigation in this moment when liberals are furious about the make up of the court is a coincidence.
You might be right that liberal rags are targeting conservative justices for investigation. There is nothing stopping a conservative outlet from investigating the liberal justices. As a hater of the entire supreme court, I'd be ready to read about the ethical failings of Justice Kagan. And you know the Fox crowd would eat it up. That Project Veritas or whomever hasn't come with their own findings suggests to me that there might not be any to share. What I won't do is look at uncovered ethical failings of the conservative justices and say, 'but it was reported to me for the wrong reasons so I'll disregard,'
Are you arguing that, because you believe certain outlets are prone to investigating particular justices first, they shouldn't be investigated at all? Does ProPublica's editorial slant render its findings useless? Do they have a track record that demands more intense skepticism, a la Project Veritas, or have any of their reports about Thomas and Alito been factually disproven? I don't think any liberals would be too upset if true investigation (not doctored, unverifiable videos) revealed that Sotomayor, Kagan or Jackson were accepting lavish gifts from partisan donors who had interests before the court. From what know now, Kagan turned down free bagels while Thomas and Alito were accepting luxury travel and tuition. I'd rather every member of the court be ethical instead of being on "my team". The Supreme Court is the most opaque branch of our government and has operated without oversight for decades. I don't think it's a bad thing to pierce its veil of secrecy.
lol Laurence Tribe pumping out the disinformation Spoiler: proof that progressives have no sense of humor if I have to explain the joke it isn't funny
Ethics investigations and reporting on the Court isn’t a sudden new thing. Here are some reporting when the Court had a 5-4 liberal leaning. Feb 2016: Scalia Took Dozens of Trips Funded by Private Sponsors https://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/27/...-taking-trips-funded-by-private-sponsors.html Feb 2016: Why Justice Scalia was staying for free at a Texas resort https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...preme-court-justices-to-visit-remote-resorts/ June 2016: Justices Disclose Privately Paid Trips and Gifts https://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/23/us/politics/justices-disclose-privately-paid-trips-and-gifts.html
Of course ProPublica is the real villian here for exposing that Justices like Thomas are getting their homes paid for and taking lavish vacations on the dime of people who have petitions before the court rather than those Justices.
Nope. I think it is a governing document and the supreme law of the land. It also has a mechanism included in its very text by which problems with the document can be corrected.

Not surprising but I do like how the majority opinion is phrased as to not completely throw out race as to how it affected the applicants life.

You meant this phrase from the majority ruling? “At the same time, nothing prohibits universities from considering an applicant’s discussion of how race affected the applicant’s life, so long as that discussion is concretely tied to a quality of character or unique ability that the particular applicant can contribute to the university."
