Brantley is not a singles hitter. He's a gap hitter who makes good contact. If you wanna keep asking stupid questions about how good an injured player is, keep that same energy when considering this year's injuries. Astros really only have 3 players who are underachieving... Bregs, Abreu, and Montero. Two of those guys have been extra suck. Tucker is only a little below last season. Other than that, it's injuries and Dusty. Those are the facts. Because we are only eight months removed from a title, and we've been to the world series 4 times in 6 years. Not really time to either upset the applecart or get upset with it. Let it play out. It has proven to work out. And if we win 2 more World Series we will be in the top 10 Champions all time in MLB, right there with every other team that started in the 1900's. How about them apples.
Brantley has averaged 30 doubles per 500 AB the past 2 years. That includes playing at least part of the year last season with 1 shoulder. He's averaged 34 per 500 ABs as an Astro. That's, by definition, not a Singles hitter.
Listen, I like Brantley. Not having him sucks but we should be ok without him. He has become a singles hitter and yeah a few find the gap but he’s mostly a singles guy now and his power has waned.
