Does the Rockets front office have a problem with Sengun?

    That's literally my entire point.

Does it take a leap of faith to commit to Sengun now? Yes.

It almost kind of clouds the issue to some extent that we have so many other young players with upside - but if they were as smart as Denver, and if they actually still cared about analytics, they would see that Sengun is the supreme talent within our young core.

Has he shown enough promise that they should do it, and do it now (in my opinion)? Yes.

Denver did it when they traded Nurkic, and Malone said he wouldn't trade Jokic for anyone in the world 5 or 6 years ago.

    They got rewarded.

I am concerned that Stone "doesn't get it", being stuck in his one-dimensional, risk-averse, sycophantic, ass-kissing lawyer mindset and that that might land us on the mediocrity treadmill for a decade, at least.

This has already been debated in other threads, no need to be rehashed here.

The post was an attempt to help those who are confused about why things are happening the way they are, but some people don't actually want to know, they are just looking for a feedback loop.

Jokic was going to be Jokic no matter what, and Sengun will be Sengun no matter what.

Agreed, and the Rockets should do that as well. Patience, with all options open. He will have plenty of opportunities, especially off the bench, to show what he can do.

Alperen needs to throw some food at Stone (or Udoka) and then drive off at halftime. [IMG]
That should get him in some good graces.

Just kidding. He’d be suspended 10 games minimum and then cut/traded.

If the Pelicans wanted Sengun as the centerpiece of a Zion trade, that should tell you something.

I'm a Sengun believer. I think with good coaching and schematic buy-in from the team, he can be one of the better players in the NBA sooner rather than later. Whether he's a just a regular season guy has yet to be seen, but he is one of the key pieces in actually getting us to the playoffs in the first place. (And no, I don't expect it to happen this year.)

If they did, they would have made the trade lol. Also, the 4th would’ve been the asset they wanted the most. That trade would’ve been the 4th pick, Sengun, maybe a Tari, and Brooklyn picks

Alperen Sengun is 20. Let me see a 22-year-old Alperen with 2 years of Udoka tough love on defense. :)

That twitter guy Okeezie needs to work on his listening comprehension.

Going by J.R.'s partial transcript, Clutch says:
" I don’t know if Ime is the biggest believer in Sengun but he sees the value in him. He sees his positives."

This does not mean Udoka does not believe in Sengun.

Any "front office" that would trade all that for a fatso who doesn't give a **** about basketball should not just be fired.

It should be tarred and feathered.

I said it when they chose Amen and Cam, the Rockets are looking to build a DEFENSIVE team and everybody is not going to fit.

Doesn't mean Sengun or others are not good, they just do not fit. Could you imagine a frontline with Capela and Jabari or Myles Turner and Jabari with the wing players we have now?

It's hard to build or construct a defensive team if three players are playing and the others are not.

They had to put clauses in his contract to stay in shape, yet that is who the Rockets were willing to trade Sengun for. He’s also injury prone (a lot which is weight related) and hasn’t played a full season yet.

Weird that we aren't shopping veteran champion shooting guards and making Jalen Green earn it. I also haven't seen anything about the rockets shopping around trying to bring in veterans with championship pedigree at PF so that Jabari can "compete" and "earn it."

Brooks and Lopez in particular set a standard defensively, that could be very valuable for the young guys to emulate. FVV makes less sense to me, I’d rather roll with Amen and give TyTy a run at backup.

He’s also on the downside age wise, so it would be hard to imagine Lopez averaging more minutes than Sengun. I believe for most players the sweet spot is 25-30 mpg and fatigue causes decline in performance after that.

Are you implying Green doesn't have talent or skill?

I don't think Brook Lopez hurts Alperen Sengun in the slightest. He is the perfect obstacle for Alperen to put in the crosshairs. (You just know Alperen will be abusing him in practice, too)

There are definitely questions of fit surrounding Sengun and the Rockets, IMO.

Theoretically, "traditional," rim-protecting bigs could be a better fit next to Jabari. I believe this was how he played in college, too.

Also, going forward, it could be tough to play Amen Thompson and Sengun at the same time. Unless one or both learn to shoot from the outside.

This continued comparison of Sengun to Jokic is so stupid. Jokic came into the league a full 20 pounds heavier than Sengun with a frame that was built to become way more massive with professional NBA conditioning. He came into the NBA shooting basically a full 10% higher on FTs (one of the best indicators a player can develop a good jumper), an area where Sengun came back an offseason having made essentially no improvement which does absolutely nothing to alleviate my concerns that he will never become a reliable shooter from range. The only similarities between the two are that they are grounded Euros with good footwork in the post and great passing vision. Beyond that, Jokic and Sengun are two very different players.

Saying that Sengun is faster and more athletic than Jokic is also such a dumb argument. This might matter if Sengun only played Jokic, but that is not the case and will never be the case. Sure Sengun is faster and jumps higher; Jokic is literally one of the least athletic and quick big in the league. The overwhelming majority of bigs are faster and more athletic than Jokic. It literally means NOTHING. Jokic has the size and mass to be effective against 99% of the NBA. If you watched the finals, you should have saw him bump off Bam with impunity. The real question for Sengun is whether he can leverage the combination of his height and very average everything else against his peers in the NBA as effectively Jokic leverages his size and mass. Personally, I have some serious doubts that he can which is why him developing reliable range is IMO so criticle to his development. I will say that if he never does develop that range, he will NEVER become a star.

As for D, I highly doubt that Sengun will ever become an elite or even great defender. I do believe he can become a solid defender by virtue of being a 6'10 (or whatever he is) body who puts himself in the right place and right time to clog up the post and take away driving lanes. I also believe that Bari can be our Aaron Gordon on D to help cover for Sengun. I believe our poor D last season was 99% due to poor discipline and lack of experience.
