Just wait when Alvarez and Brantley come back. Chas will be playing fewer innings than Montero, Salazar, Kessinger combined.

It Julks that is the issue.

He is clearly a tier below both Chas and Jake but gets the most playing time.

Even after his hot streak recently, his season production numbers (.689 OPS) are below both Chas (.788) and Jake (.694) but he gets DH starts when they are in the field. One of them is on the bench when he is in the field.

He is the worst offensive and defensive player among the 3, but gets the most starts and most playing time.

    June
    Julks 20g / 17gs / 72 PA
    Jake 18g / 16gs / 60 PA
    Chas 15g / 14gs / 62 PA

If and when Brantley comes back Julks won't be on the MLB roster unless he really turns in on the next few weeks.

    That's what I hope too

But nothing about how the roster has been used this year gives me confidence that it's not Chas or Jake that get sent down.

Dusty, "We only need Jake OR Chas, not both. Dubon can be the back up CF and Julks has played there a lot in the minors. I need to keep Corey."

Julks is likely one of the 13 best position players we have available, and has been all year. Dusty has been embarrassingly overplaying him but his spot on the roster is deserved.

As soon as he stops being one of the 13 best available Dana Brown is gonna send his ass to Sugarland.

I wouldn’t count on Brantley coming back.

Chas is a role player. That’s it. What happened last year is last year. He is a decent CF with no arm and a weak bat.

Then what is Julks? A decent LF with no arm, an inconsistent bat, and horrible reads on fly balls.

So is the guy that Dusty replaced him with on opening day as a slap in the face. Chas had actually outplayed Meyers last year. He has also outplayed him this year. Role player or not it was trash what Dusty did.

He’s 11% better than league average bat for his career and 20% better this year. Your take on Chas is bad. He’s a good player. He doesn’t have a weak bat.

I think the market right now looks like very limited sellers and all of the buyers except the Braves have a better farm system than the Astros. If someone like Hader became available it might take a stupid trade like the Cubs had to give up to get Aroldis Chapman in 2016. They gave a massive haul for a rental which included Gleyber Torres. Teams like the Orioles have a ridiculous amount of top 100 prospects. They almost need to trade some of them. Any guy we want..... pretty much every team but the Braves can outbid the Astros.

Do I expect the Astros to make a couple moves? Yes, but it won't be at the top of the market or the impact guys we are hoping for in my opinion. The starter market looks VERY limited to me. Even if guys like Giolito and Montgomery are made available I don't see us landing them over the teams with stacked systems that could throw a top 100 guy out there for a rental and not even blink.

I think bullpen should be the focus. Anything beyond that would be a surpise get to me, and I expect the Astros will have to give up a couple guys like Dezenzo, Barber, Corona, Whitcomb, or Loperfido just to land rentals in this market. I wouldn't be surprised if the Astros have to move Colton Gordon or Arrighetti either.

    Deadline is August 1st.

Damn based off that comment...Dusty is going to keep throwing him out there in high leverage situations

Where are you getting this garbage?

I agree that Chas is better as a 4th OF / role player as you say.

I think "decent CF" is unfair. By every measurable, he has always been in the top half of CF. He is currently 28th out of 62 CF that have had at least 25 chances in outs above average. To me, top half while not great, is better than "decent"

"No arm" is unfortunately fair. His avg speed of throws is currently 125th out of 149 OF w/ 50+ throws this year.

As for "weak bat" you are absolutely wrong. Chas has been better than MLB average consistently throughout his career. 16% above average for 2023. 9% above average last year and 7% above average in 2021.

Above average should never be described as "weak"

If you win your division (1st), I consider that a W for the regular season... anything less than 1st, even if you go to post, is a L.. think that's fair to say.
Now, let's also consider those first 10 years to be during the "steroid scandal" era... so those results would be skewed.
We'll look at total overall reg season (W-L), then post-season appearances (PS), record/results...
    Giants: (7-3), 3 / 1-2 / L (11-13)
    Cubs: (2-2), 1 / push (6-6)
    Reds: (3-3), 3 / L (2-7)
    Nats: (2-0), 2 / L (4-6)
    Stros: (2-1-?), 3 / W (28-14) ... we know the rest...
    "uhh you're welcome,
    Jeffrey Luhnow (2012-2019)...
(ok we'll also include Click for some of the recent decisions during his quick little drive-by)"

As I stated before... this team was already trending upward and was continuing to peak & streak over the last 6-7 seasons. This team managed to nut-up as long as they did with All-Star caliber rosters almost up & down, year after year. That ring was guaranteed to Baker.

The way I understand it is: if he's such a guru & lineup wizard, why doesn't he have more pennants / more rings...?? Its not like he managed bottom-of-the-barrel clubhouses... I think we can all look at those teams and say yeah, those were pretty good rosters.
I would like to see the 'Stros to take it all & Ol' Mack get stupid-rich (again) and to also be proven wrong by DB Pooper's bad to the bone managerial decisions... I just don't see them getting past the WC round, if they make it there.
3962 games... 5 games over .500... mediocrity, middle-of-the-road, at best.
Every time I see a new lineup card posted, Steve Martin's old SNL skit "Wild n Crazy Guy" pops into my head... & whoever said they thought that Manfred or someone high up in the offices of the league "imposed" this decision-- I absolutely agree. I and I could probably say 85-90% of the rest of the city would welcome a Hinch return and/or are looking forward to whomever manages this ballclub next.

edit: ****... I know my math is off in a few columns... editing / re-uploading... the last "Won by" graphic on last years record... W-50

It would be silly of anyone to count of Brantley ever again.

However he is throwing and doing a lot of work in the cage - so there is a real chance he comes back.

Having said that - it has been a year since he played in a big league game.

He’s throwing lights out but he just keeps getting hit.
He’s hitting lights out but he just keeps striking out.
He’s defending lights out but he just keeps overthrowing the first baseman.
He’s defending lights out but he just keeps fumbling the ball as he goes to throw.

He’s shooting lights out from three but he just keeps bricking.
He’s defending lights out but the refs just keep calling fouls.

He’s reading the hell out of the defense but he just keeps throwing interceptions.
He’s running the hell out of the ball but he just keeps fumbling it.
He’s catching the hell out of the ball but he leads the league in drops.
