Korey Lee batting .293/.340/.422 in Sugar Land this season with 12 SB. Although he has a history paying LF/CIF, he has stuck to catching and DHing this year while playing almost every day. Dana Brown doesn't want him riding the bench, and that's why he is still in AAA because we all know what Dusty does.
You want a washed catcher that is going to lead the league in passed balls in back-to-back seasons that also can't hit above .200 getting majority of the starts? That is a recipe for the apocalypse.
This just pissed the hell out of me. 1st and 3rd, 0 out. And you have Maldy bunt?!?!?!?!?!? Maldy is a slow runner and likely an out. He didn't just try to bunt once, he did it twice. Either pinch hit him, or let him hit, who has a better chance than bunting for an out. Even if he hits into a Double Play, you scored the run. ESPN broadcasters behind the scene laughing at our wise decisions in late-innings.
Maldy had a successful squeeze bunt in that last game against the Mets so Baker decided to keep going to that rare lucky well. That squeeze barely worked as it was also to the pitcher who threw high to the catcher. A good throw and that bunt wouldn't have worked either.
Don't forget his throwing has fallen off, and this year sometimes those throws end up in CF -- an extra advance to the runner Another disadvantage is his terrible speed -- more DPs, doubles turn into singles, and clogged bases when (by miracle) he does reach base.
Can't believe I'm saying this but I'm glad there's no Astros baseball today. Watching them this month of June has been something else.
For all Maldy has done in the past, which is awesome, his current production cannot be any worse then a rookie. I would keep him and play him once a week and mentor to the kids but dam, he has to be replaced or at least give the youngsters some QUALITY appearances over a longer period of time. Love Maldy but he needs to be a mentor and back up
And a catcher who the brain dead manager also refuses to pinch hit for in key moments of close games. There is no valid argument to support Dusty not pinch hitting for him. If he at least pinch hit for him late in close games, it would be much easier to stomach. Dusty just won’t do it, though, I guess out of spite or something? This goes beyond Dusty being a total moron. He seems to have a personality disorder. I am certain that Dusty’s logic last night was that Diaz hits into lots of DPs, so he didn’t like him there. The problem with that logic is that a DP would have scored the 2nd run in extra innings, making the win probability skyrocket. Dusty doesn’t buy into win probability, though. Dusty’s ample gut is where it’s at.
A disaster why exactly? Do you really think Framber or Javier needs Maldy back there? You think he has an irreplaceable rapport w Hunter and France and Blanco? That he brings enough “veteran leadership” that it outweighs his .160 avg and borderline terrible defensive metrics? Why don’t you go ahead and explain it to us since it seems so obvious to you.
No. He’s a petty liar. I am beginning to call BS on the fantasy that he’s the greatest guy in the world. The way he did Chas on opening day was a major red flag. The way to did Stanek in the playoffs last season was too. He’s the best manager in the game, FOR ME TO POOP ON!
"well we have to use Montero or we're going to have to use our taxed relievers" "well we used Montero so we then had to use our taxed relievers" This is derp excuse making at its finest So not only is our manager bad at his job, apparently so is the GM All day long the 790 talking heads spew the company line almost like they're reading a script, defending Dusty at every turn. That's infuriating.
