It's been that way for a while now with Chaz and Diaz. Save for a slump after he came back Chaz has held an OPS over .900 and Diaz has expected numbers that are off the chart. Julks has been stupidly stealing time from them all year, it's nice that's he's had a couple of good games but that doesn't change the value difference. Dubon is already pretty much a near everyday reserve so he's being used just fine.
I must say that I have been impressed by Julks and his improvement the past month. I still think that over a sample size of an entire season that Meyers and McCormick will end up the better players, but he may end up a solid bench player and contributor At very least they offer more defensive value. Career OPS by months: Julks: .735, .597, .756 Meyers: .838, .680, .524, .616, .465, .909, .721, .778, .486 McCormick: .601, .817, .811, .734, .846, .704, .748, .675, .540, .865, .778, .724, .883, .552, .888 I post this for 2 reasons 1) to show just how inconsistent - both good and bad- all 3 players can be. 2) to show that Meyers has had 3 months and Chas 7 months better than this "great month" Julks is having now. He has made me optimistic but not convinced yet. If Dusty or the manager can choose the right one each day, they could make 2/9 of a great lineup.
Go get solid guys like Lynn,Graveman and Bellinger without having to give up top prospects and take your chances.
One thing I can say is that Chas has been very consistent in the last 3 seasons. Maybe the lack of upside is what is holding him back. He doesn't have that many bad stretches like most of the other players on the team.
Per the Athletic... It’s no secret inside Houston’s clubhouse that Baker is not a fan of McCormick’s and hasn’t been since early last season, which has somewhat impacted his playing time.
One more thing I want to say about Manfred and the vilification of the Astros, it's not like the other media darlings weren't doing it as well. Look, I acknowledge the Astros were dumb and cheated when they didn't need to. However, to say no one else did it is just a ****ing joke. Of course MLB won't go after the major market teams that were doing it too.
The level of consistency Chas and Yainer have played with while being in the Baker doghouse is impressive asf. Not only the physical aspect of never being able to get into a solid routine, but also the mental aspect of watching inferior talent whiff at a bunch of bullshit from the dugout.
I've heard (second hand) he got chirpy last year after playing well enough to have earned every day starts while guys playing over him sucked it up. I'm not sure if Dusty is the type to hold a situation Dusty created against Chas. I can only say that most guys that have played as well as Chas has would have played more such that we would know more about his skill level (i.e., projections and production are still really different on a plate appearance basis*). *Granted, about half the difference between Chas's production and projections is based on most guys that split time between CF and LF suck defensively and are playing CF due to team not having a good defensive CF (i.e., projections are treating Chas like a crappy defender).
Dusty was pissed that Chas got mad that he was getting bent over. F Dusty. Chas is probably hoping to get traded.
Chaz clearly outplaying the other CF options in the regular season, and then playing solid everyday baseball through a WS run....and then not starting the first 2 games of the season is the most blatant slap in the face you will see. Whether it's personal or just a poor judgement of ability it's absolute BS Chaz that has been limited the way he has by Dusty. Almost 4 fWAR per 650 PA, and that's with him not even being optimally platooned.
Chas is just biding his time. He will be around after Baker gets retired or get traded. He sees what Siri, and know his time is coming. The main thing is that gets a fair shake before his arbitration years, because that real money.
There are only 5 qualified center fielders and 10 qualified left fielders in the league hitting better than Chas this season and only half of them are equal or better than him defensively. Again F Baker and his personal bias.
