I think this is what I would like to do...

    To Toronto:
    #4
    Kenyon Martin Jr

    To Houston:
    #13
    OG Anunoby

    To Houston:
    Derrick White
    #35

    To Boston:
    Jae'Sean Tate
    Usman Garuba

    To Utah:
#20, #35, and future Wizards or Brooklyn pick

    To Houston:
    #9

Draft Coulibaly and Lively at 9 and 13.
    Sign Grant Williams...

    White / Coulibaly
    Green / Porter / Christopher
    Anunoby / Eason
    Smith / Williams
    Sengun / Lively

This assumes reasonable assurance Anunoby will accept max offer from Houston as a free agent.

Much better defense while still staying young... all 5 additions profile as plus defenders:

    Couliabaly
    White
    Anunoby
    Williams
    Lively

2 of those 3 nba players were on 2nd all defense team last year... the 2 rookies have excellent measurements for nba success as defenders....

Yeah that’s a terrible trade. Duncan is a negative asset because of the contract. The Heat’s picks will suck for at least 3 or 4 years with Dame and Adeyemo.

Yes, if I don't like who is at 4 enough.

Jimmy Butler will be 34. Lillard will be 33.

We would have their #18 this year, 2024 pick, 2026 pick, and 2028 pick.

In 2028 Butler and Lillard would likely have been retired. Bam and Herro would be top dogs for them.

A lot can happen such as injuries or disgruntled players.

I don't have a chart in front of me but I'm guessing 4 picks between 15-20 are about as likely to get you a star at 4. Since you don't think this 4 is likely to get you one, your odds go up.

That includes values in trades for a star.

I think you're misunderstanding the scenario, this only makes sense if you think no one at 4 is going to be a multi year allstar. On average the #4 pick is about a 20% chance at such a player over 20 years.

If you think the best player you could get is just an Aaron Gordon level player then maybe you pass....

Sure. I wasn't ever saying anything contrary to this. I was only saying that everyone is trying to get better, and as such it's foolish to only think about how the Rockets could get better and project additional wins based on that alone.

The person I was replying to was only taking the Rockets' moves into consideration (and assuming best-case scenario) when predicting our win total.

It's a great trade if you're taking the next Tristan Thompson or Dragan Bender at 4...

Duncan is terrible contract which is why I said maybe he has to go to Portland for salary offset.

You're converting a #4 pick, when you don't love the players, into 18 and 3 future unprotected picks.

Lowry fills a need for a a year and between him and KPJ stretch would give you cap space a year from now.

Stop acting like I'm suggesting we pass on Chris Bosh for late 1s...

But there are things some teams can do with cap space and draft capital others cannot.

You're assuming a level playing field when many teams have advantages.

Of course. I'm not assuming everyone has the same cap as us. Obviously that's not the case.

When you're as bad as we are even adding mediocre FAs can be beneficial. But it won't launch us to the play-in.

When it comes to roster talent, for example, we are, what, bottom 2? Adding a rookie, Dillon Brooks, and Bruce Brown would elevate us to the bottom 5 or 6. So, sure, that's a jump. And maybe in a vacuum these FA signings will be better than other teams' FA signings. But when you look at the total package that makes up a team, we're still nowhere near a 40 win team.

I didn't see anyone claiming Brooks and Brown would get us to 40 wins. Harden probably. Harden and someone else maybe 50+ depending who it is.

I'd prefer one quality star like a Jaylen Brown than older rental or veterans. You can get veterans for close to minimum if you're wanting guys in the room....

Different argument maybe if you find a veteran who directly address needs like running an offense, rim protection, or just plain defense...

I would also prefer Jaylen Brown! But I don't think that's going to happen. I also don't think Harden will happen. But hey, we'll see. Hopefully it's good.

I'm feeling the same way now too. I do feel Boston would be better to cash in Brown and another contract like White or Brogdon due to the new CBA. It certainly adds value to picks and younger players.

Their payroll basically locks them in and I don't think it's good enough. Maybe when some contracts become expiring deals they could move them and oicks for stars.

I think over the next 3 years, Miami and Philly will likely be better. Milwaukee might be too but I'm skeptical about the coaching change there and younger replacements for Middleton and Holiday...

I think Chicago and Cleveland could go either way but in best case they could be top 4 seeds consistently

I have Boston around 3rd in the east.

It is the biological clock for star players.

All we would need is for the Raptors to trade Siakam and others for #3 to take Amen and then we could snag Scoot. It’ll never happen but can you imagine?

Man, if Portland ends up trading that pick for a star we need to get in on that... increase the return for the team trading with Portland in order to end up with Scoot
