In light of the fact that Hunter was willing to plead guilty to these rarely-enforced charges would suggest that his negotiating team did win something else of value in the negotiation. Some more serious charge that they might have lost in court. The bribery allegation still doesn't look credible to me, but could be something around trying to sell access, who knows. But, that's the nature of negotiations. Weiss and Biden each walk away with half a loaf.
That someone isn't part of government in any way or does not influence policy. Compare that to ivanka and Jared who were offical employees of the government
That someone is still very close to the President. Would that prevent me from voting for him? No, his son pleading guilty to lying about his taxes and a confusing gun questionaire isn't enough to do that - but if a pattern emerges, then very well could be enough - but we are not there. As for Ivanka Trump and her husband - they are not the standard for me. I already know that they are not the type of people that we need in the Whitehouse, so they hold no real relevance when making a comparison. If Trump ends up winning the Republican nomination - then I will make a compare and contrast with Biden - but we are not there yet.
Good for him. A good lawyer goes a long way. What were the original charges that he pled down from? I am guessing felonies?
At the end of the day, this is in practical terms a win for Hunter Biden. He will not go to jail, he will be given probation and he will not have to worry about being investigated any further. My guess is that he will try to stay under the radar going forward. As for Joe Biden, his son pleading guilty to a felony isn't a good look, but there is nothing that implicates the President - so he is likely accepting of it.
honestly I don't really care either, but OP put my name in the thread title, so . . . I have a reputation to uphold. That, and keeping a running count of how many nobodies that don't care continue to keep posting in the thread.
You're delusional. All the fbi stuff was already submitted to the trump back attorney General. He had all the evidence and conspiracies from the Barr investigation. No more braindead conspiracies
Well, one thing that was NOT unexpected is projection. GOP House will of course continue to investigate for political benefits. https://www.allsides.com/story/justice-hunter-biden-charged-tax-misdemeanors-gun-felony AllSides Summary Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has been charged with failing to pay his taxes on time in 2017 and 2018, and with illegally possessing a handgun. For Context: The agreement will likely be the end of the Justice Department's investigation into Hunter Biden, and it may prompt congressional Republicans to further investigate the Biden family. How the Media Covered it: The plea agreement was covered by sources across the political spectrum, with many noting that Hunter Biden will continue to be at the center of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee investigation.
The Biden DoJ won’t charge Trump for all of his tax shenanigans and malarkey but goes after Biden’s own son for lightly charged offenses. I think we all can conclude that Biden hates his son or not.
I think we all can conclude that with the DOJ clock ticking on Trump's August 14 trial date, the DOJ rainmakers had to move this thing along to avoid the appearance of dragging their feet on the President's son
I'll gently push back here and say there is nothing confusing about the questions on the gun purchase paperwork "Are you on drugs?" "No."
Okay? I don't see why you attached this to me. I haven't called Garland corrupt, all I said was that Hunter Biden pleading guilty makes me raise an eyebrow and would be concerned if we see a pattern emerge..... but I also said, as far as I can tell, this doesn't in anyway implicate the President.
I suppose he could. Since it'd create a political firestorm, no way he'd do it before the election. But, I'm guessing he doesn't ever issue him a pardon.
See, I find that to be confusing. Is that asking if the person is on drugs when filling out the questionaire OR is that asking if the person filling that out is a regular drug user? In the law we usually revert to the simple and plain meaning - which would be, are you on drugs at the time he signed the document, and the only person that MAYBE would know that is Hunter Biden. He may well have not been high when he filled that out. If the question was worded differently it wouldn't be confusing: "Have you used drugs in the last 60 days". However - if I filled that questionaire out, I would assume that they asked the question the way they did, to make sure I was on clear mind while answering that questionaire - in depositions we ask this same question to make sure the person is in position to give us honest and informed answers. Either way - I don't want a drug addict getting a gun, but for a federal questionaire, it is not well written IMO.
fair enough. I'll admit I was looking forward to Hunter's lawyers fighting that one on constitutional grounds. am disappoint
although the current question (most up-to-date version of the form) seems pretty unambiguous. Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, mar1juana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Warning: The use or possession of mar1juana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside. Not sure how it read in 2018 (or whenever he bought the pistol) on edit: it appears the current drug usage question's wording was part of the 2016 revision to the form, so presumably this is the wording he responded to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Form_4473#2016
