We're going to be a play in team as in we will play in the regular season. But that's as far as it will go. We will still be at the bottom of the league and praying to the lottery gods that we retain our top 4 protected pick.

    No I really feel it

Replacing Nix with a competitive point guard is an automatic 5 more wins

If Bari and Tari can make a layup this year it’s a automatic 5 wins

Adding two more high quality vets is a automatic 5 wins

    Udoka is another 5 wins

Im looking at a 40 win team

Have you thought about how other teams are improving, too? The rest of the league is also trying to get better. It's not just us.

Who is even trying to tank next year? Just Washington, right? So every other team is trying to win. Keep that in mind. Other teams get better too, and next year there won't be 5 teams trying to lose.

    Legit question for you
Of the Rockets who played significant minutes over the season, who do you think are the top 3 in terms of "making layups" (or finishing within 3 feet of the rim)

One of the guys you mentioned is in our top 3.... (and posted a very nice mark by NBA standards - our top guy was near best in the NBA) so I don't see them adding 5 wins....

No, you're looking at a 22 win team and just randomly saying "5 wins".

How about 10 wins. I'm looking at a 60 win team.

Trying to get better involves cooperation of the players.

Just because you wa t to resign your guys doesn't mean you can. Just because you have cap space doesn't mean you get a superstar.

Agreed. Just because we're trying to get better, it doesn't mean we will.

I mean, they have to, right? Otherwise, they are stuck in purgatory.

Let's say they trade Dame to Miami for 3 FRPs, Tyler Herro, and filler. They'd be in a pretty good spot going forward.

Miller or Scoot / Sharpe / Simons / Herro, along with a lot of future draft capital? That's a great start to a rebuild.

I agree. They could probably trade up and get another lotto pick this year. Having the 3rd pick already and having Dame to trade could make it a 1-2 year rebuild

Correct. Jalen could fall on his face in Udoka's system that relied on ball movement or he just doesn't improve on defense.

Odds are better the young guys get better, but there is no guarantee.

Adding 2 quality starters with track records greatly reduces the variability of the younger performers. This assumes they are able to do so which they may not be able to.

    Thanks for your agreement...

Ysports! says our boi Tyus, Tyus who? Tyus Jones! is on the trading block. Would they take the #20th pick and a Tate? Tate would be nice with a grown up team like Memphis.

Yes please. One of my top trade targets. Perfect guy to platoon with Amen. He won't mind playing 28-30 minutes a game as a starter (still an increased role over what he has now). He's good enough that if Amen doesn't look like he's panning out, we can re-sign Tyus, but his contract only runs through this year, so if Amen is looking great we can just let Tyus walk.

    Get it done!

Just a thought for long term value...

    To Heat:
    Damian Lillard

    To Rockets:
Every future Heat pick possible unprotected
    Kyle Lowry
    Duncan Robinson

    To Blazers:
    #4
    Kenyon Martin Jr

The Blazers would then have the #3, #4, and #23 picks with about 45-50 million in cap space. They have Simons, Sharpe, Martin, and Nurkic to build around. They gamble on #4 now and cap space over future Miami picks that may be in the teens as Miami is consistently good.

Blazers get their guy without losing win now pieces, keep their picks in alternate years with no swaps included. Basically it could amount to 3 or 4 mid #1 picks.

Rockets lose out on 4 this year and take on salary for adding to the war chest in the future where those mid to late firsts could add valuable role players via trade later. Lowry serves as veteran point guard placeholder.

I think if you're not in love with who is at 4 it's an arguable position to spread value over multiple years. They are only losing who could be there at 4 which is maybe a 70% chance of being a bust anyways.

Not my favorite, but it's something I would consider in right circumstances... would be better moving Robinson to Portland to save some cap space...

You’d give up the #4 for Lowry & Robinson with a couple picks while making two other teams better with one being a conference rival?
