I’m hoping this is code for, “we are open to trading this pick, you will get a really good player at #4…wink, wink”
If we stay with the pick, I would definitely take Amen unless Scoot is available. The hype no longer seems media driven. Don’t want Cam or Miller although if it ends up between the 2 I take Miller. I still think the Nets end up trading Bridges probably to Portland for Simons, Nurkic, the #3 and future picks. That is their only trade chip, they really need to re-build and we would be the best candidate to do that, but there front office seems pretty stupid to me.
The Rockets front office is so obvious. -"the Rockets say they have MULTIPLE teams offering first round picks for Oladipo" -"The Rockets feel confident they have MULTIPLE teams offers good first round picks for Eric Gordon" -"The Rockets feel confident they have MULTIPLE teams offers good first round picks for Eric Gordon" -Paulo Banchero has blown the team away in workouts -etc. -etc. I will say though that other teams throwing out sooooooo much buzz about Scoot Henderson and kind of poo pooing Miller is kind of interesting. Everyone is playing games right now so the Rockets aren't an anomaly.
Amen went from +2300 to +1600 overnight for #3 per FanDuel. Miller went from +2400 to +1900 for #4. Interesting.
Funny how every time he has a workout, they ONLY talk about athleticism, the thing everyone already knew was a strength. You NEVER hear anything about how he looked shooting the ball or any other part of the game.
But you would care once the season started. Adding a guy who might not win a shots only game of HORSE vs 10 random CF members to the worst shooting team in the league would be essentially the GM version of malpractice.
How good he is next season is irrelevant, the question is how good will he be in 3-4 years when the rockets are trying to be good
I really hope if the Rockets take a major swing at a "potential-type prospect", they don't put pressure on him right away. Hopefully he can play more of a 6th man by the end of the season with a competent Rockets roster. He will be very raw and hopefully he is okay coming off the bench to get a feel and learn how to impact the game at the NBA level. I don't mind Amen at #4 if the Rockets upgrade the roster and if Udoka feels like the staff can develop him long term.
I think the real question is if he'll even be in the league 4 years after he's drafted. You simply can't have a guard THAT bad at shooting the ball, and I can't assume someone who is STILL that bad will magically learn how to shoot at an NBA level. If he really does have that legendary work ethic that people keep saying, why is he STILL that pathetic at shooting a basketball. It means either the work ethic talk is a lie, or it's true and he's just not capable of learning how to shoot.
if he's outa the league, that's not ideal. People like ben simmons and rondo were very very good players though and couldn't shoot at all. Kawhi when he was young had zero shooting ability, there's lots of others. Obviously it really really sucks we didn't get a top 2 pick, i was kinda hoping for 2 for scoot but it is what it is edit - forgot about giannis, who couldn't shoot when he came into the league and only got worse
I'm not so sure, he's done nothing but basketball the past few years and shooting is one of the most important things for a guard and he's still not even an NCAA quality shooter. If he really is some legendary work ethic guy like people say, he should have gotten at least a little bit better. There are some people who simply don't have the skills even if they have the athleticism. If he was some 7 foot tall freak, then it would be okay, but how is he not just a worse shooting KJ Martin with a better handle?
