Jeez. This is ridiculous. Just because someone says that Wood, by a quantitative metric (VORP) outperformed his contract - even though he was a cancer - makes anyone a STAN - is just gaslighting. Wood did outperform his contract. He did get us draft assets when traded. He still sucked. He sucked because he didn’t play defense and thought he was the man. He still outperformed his contract. That is the key. A player can provide value if his cost is low enough and he does something well enough. That is the task for the management of I figure out going forward - who do we bring in to better the team - now and in one year when extension decisions are due for Green and Sengun. definitely doesn’t make me a KPJ Stan…. Just stupid. Think before you post.
Wood is probably my least favorite Rocket ever. He’s got the ego and selfishness of Pippen without the championship pedigree to back it up. Hes got the lousy free-throw shooting of Dwight Howard without the defense and paint presence. He’s got the tunnel vision of Carmelo Anthony without the charisma or all-star resume. He’s got the pouting and quitting of Vernon Maxwell without the fire, intensity, and clutchness. He’s got the laziness of Kelvin Cato without the mellow vibe. He’s got the cluelessness of Stromile Swift without… well maybe he’s not quite that clueless.
Then reply to the post you mean to reply to. Don’t reply in general to the thread. A lot of people trashed Wood. According to advanced analytical metrics, he did his job
Yes. He wore out his welcome. He is not likely to be a player on a championship team. That is different then saying he didn’t play at or above his contract. Because he is a r****ded teammate he gets paid half what you would expect from his on court performance. He is an efficient offensive player. If he didn’t act like a r****d and gave minimum lip service to team defense and didn’t act like he should be the “man” he would make double what he made last year. Wood’s problem is that he thinks he is a max player - which is ridiculous. Because he overvalues himself he doesn’t recognize his role and that is why he wears out his welcome - not because he doesn’t provide positive on court value. He is a cancer because he overvalues his contributions, not because his contributions are are less than his contract value.
On court he didn’t suck. Any objective measure- VORP, PER, WS, RAPTOR says he was a valuable player relative to an average NBA player.
He sucked in ways stats didn't capture. He is a chemistry killer, a stat padder, not about effort and winning.
Our 3pt shooting says, "What you talking bout Peterkingx"? You probably didn't but our 3pt shooting definitely did!
Our 3pt shooting says, "What you talking bout Peterkingx"? You probably didn't but our 3pt shooting definitely MISSED him.
Stone played Dallas for a 1st for Wood and Stone played the Clippers to give them Eric Gordon to go from 30 to 20th pick in this draft….he needs to trade Martin, Tate and 20th pick for Cappella?
