Come on, now. You are having a temper tantrum. Dusty Baker, like any manager, or coach, derives their success from the talent at their disposall. 3/5th of the starting pitching he had last year is missing. He has had to roll with significant stretchs without Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez. Currently, there are *zero* dependable pitchers in his bullpen. Vets like Abreu, Bregman and Tucker are having down years. Pena has taken a step back. What we need to remember, too, is that there are down stretches *every year* with players, teams and managers. What I like about Dusty Baker is that he remembers that in a 162 game season that putting your foot on the accelerator in June will cost you later. The Astros are in contention. There is time for our usually dependable vets to get it together and for the front office to send in reinforcements. We will see what happens.
Fvck this year, what a disaster. I guess we had it coming with the good fortune of this insane run but it sure does suck d1ck to have to endure.
Watching the Astros is not much fun right now. Reminds me of 2020. Just not as good as before, or as they should be.
This is a very sane and accurate post however, the lineups still lack sensibility at times and that’s just adding to the irrational posts we’re seeing. It’s downright impossible to defend some of the lineups he’s running out there. FTR I don’t get too caught up in that but today was a shining example of “WTH are you doing?”
Luke weaver has an era of 6+ coming into today. Looking forward to the Astros 4 hit 1 run performance today.
.620 OPS in June and the duster keeps on running him out there and I don't want to hear from the apologists that he has no other options, not only is Meyers a better hitter he is a MUCH better defensive outfielder These games matter and everyone other than the baker seems to understand that
Bregman has a .629 OPS in June. Pena .610 Meyers .537 https://www.espn.com/mlb/team/stats/_/name/hou/split/42/table/batting/sort/OPS/dir/desc Cant keep them all in the doghouse.
Very true But Bregman and Pena are proven performers. Its a LOT different to continue to run them out there than it is a guy like Julks. And while Meyers has struggled like Julks at the plate, at least you get top level defense with Meyers I'm still flabbergasted that Dusty won't leave Pena in the 2 hole where, like last year, he has performed SO much better. He has a .968 OPS there after all the did there last year. I know many don't think it matters, but as bad as we are struggling why not at least go with what has worked, as opposed to going with what hasn't
Dusty has said in the past he does not like getting young players " pigeon holed" into specific roles ar the expense of being able to be overall productive That's his excuse. It's the same as his insistence on playing Chas vs RHP but playing others vs LHP I understand the concept, but this team needs to trash that and WIN. Get back into leading the division and then go back to this.
