Are "Hate Speech" and "Disinformation" often just an excuse for government censorship?

Here in lies the problem. Folks on the right are now so conditioned to think everything is about them and an attack on them that if I dare respond to a crackpot conspiracy theory with facts or state that maybe a view you have is racially charged or just simply false…. You guys on the right claim that to be “government censorship” or some existential attack on free speech.

When in reality it’s just a bunch of dudes on the internet expressing their free speech. We aren’t the mindless drones of the deep state sent here to silence you that you believe us to be.

If I could give you guys one piece of advice it would be to get over thinking you individually are this important figure in history that FoxNews makes you feel like you are that Joe Biden himself would personally train droves of internet soldier to go out and “silence.” Pull yourself up from your bootstraps and be big boys and girls. Nobody is taking away your “free speech.” We also have the 1st amendment right to tell you when we think you are wrong or a belligerent nutcase (not saying you personally. Just making a point).

I don't have cable, have never been a regular consumer of FoxNews, and have not seen a single show from FoxNews in I don't know how many years. If anyone has a mistaken opinion about other people, it would appear to be you.

 

What bothers me is the lack of accountability by people like @AroundTheWorld

They hide behind free speech to spew their lies. I think people should have the right to lie but I also think people should be able to litigate those lies. Vaccine misinformation leads to measles outbreak then those folks and those in the media should be able financially liable.

 

What conservatives are really fighting for is the right to lie without accountability.

Folks should be able to be as racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic and ageist as they want without fear of anything except public ridicule and exile.
