I just don't buy into Cam having superstar potential given the issues with his court vision/basketball IQ. I have his absolute best case peak year pegged at something like 22 points/6 rebounds/3 assists off of 45/35/75 shooting. And it would take him awhile to get there if he does--he's extremely young and very raw. He's a great athlete, but he just doesn't have any elite skills, and I'm very concerned about the way he processes the game. He's less safe and more likely to become a bust than the Thompson twins in my view, without offering Amen's All-NBA potential.
I'm well-aware. His youth is probably the biggest point in his favor, but you just don't normally see guys make huge leaps and bounds at playmaking/basketball IQ, and it's not like he's an elite shooter, nor does he have an elite bag or post moves or really any true plus basketball skills at all. 34% from the short college 3P line doesn't impress me and his FT% was nearly as bad as the twins'. For me, his is the kind of "raw athlete" prospect profile that most often becomes a true bust and is out of the league in a few years. You can't teach feel for the game, you've got it or you don't.
Absolutely thrilled to see you post again @Doc Rocket!! I for one loved how the forum transformed into two separate factions back in the day! The naysayers who always doubted every word you said and the dreamers (myself included) who loved trying to decipher what the bell you were trying to say!! Glad to have you back!! Go Rockets!!! ……. ……. …….
My 3 desires in this year's draft - if we have to take the picks. 1. Whitmore 2. Black 3. Lively 2 of the 3 would be awesome. DD
Whitmore would be great. I just want to see a vet splash though. This team so desperately needs some good vet play/leadership.
I slightly prefer Amen to Cam BUT I disagree with some of this. His elite skill is finishing at the rim. Another near elite skills are his offball impact as a cutter and his ability in transition. Explosive there. I think his first step with the ball will also be elite in time. It is very good along the baseline .He uses both hands well and has a very developed bag of 1 on 1 moves. The JBrown comparisons are fine but Cam will have a better handle. He’s coMING.
Well, I was being very specific in using the word "skill", which is maybe a little coy of me. His rim finishing, transition, cuts, etc are based on his physical tools, which are great. Anybody with his athleticism and strength is going to be innately good at those things. When we talk about basketball skills, I think about things like shooting, passing, dribbling/ballhandling, post moves, etc. I do think he has some legitimate basketball skills, but I wouldn't call any of them "elite" at this point.
I think the Batman mention means nothing. Was just replying to Jontro's previous message joking that "Batman took Doc Rocket to jail" . Then roughly transitioned from that into the riddles.
