Let's put the guy hitting .182 with .523 OPS in his 11 games at lead-off. The 11 game stretch where we're 3-8 ..coinciding with him getting more appearances and at-bats. It's not like their is a direct correlation or anything. Ironically that Julks grand slam was probably the worst thing that could happen to this team.
Jim Crane has been the best sports owner in the history of this city, and it really isn't close BUT The way this team is playing fight now is on him. Dusty has completely lost the team and him and Dana Brown are doing nothing to force him to change. What you tolerate, you encourage
Get real. Nobody is firing a manager that in 3 seasons at the helm has 1 ALCS loss, 1 WS loss, and 1 WS win. Any team would kill to have had those last 3 seasons. Not to mention this season they are again in the thick of things with an aging core that is less motivated after winning last year. Dusty knows more than anybody that this season is a marathon, and he also knows that we still have like 3 months left before this team needs to be peaking.
So what is the manager of a baseball to do, other than motivate? That's what all his sheep say he is best at. Dusty, Maldonado need to leave and Julks needs to get traded or sent down. Give Gilbert or Dirden a chance.
Can't motivate this team for 162 games. Not anymore. The players are no longer young and hungry like the Rangers or Rays are. All you can hope is that they peak in September which is still a while away. I'm not worried

Dusty needs to delegate. His strength is making sure players don't brawl in the locker room but even then... Jeff Kent and Barry Bonds openly feuded...
Astros have lost 3 of their pitching starters this season and Brandon Bielak is starting every 5 days......LOL. Altuve and Yordan have missed good chunks of the season. Brantley has yet to play at all. Really? Do you think Diaz at catcher is going to magically fix the hitting? The problem is Tucker is not carrying his weight, neither is Pena and Bregman. Abreu is coming around. Chas and Jake Meyers barely make a functional CF at the plate. You b**** about Julks, but there are not many other options. Not having a GM over the winter hurt (Montero). That is Crane's fault. I think Dusty is trying to get enough at-bats to various guy's confidence as the season wears.
Anyone hitting instead of Maldy is an improvement. Diaz is a major improvement. That change alone would do a lot good for the offense. That’s the most obvious adjustment to make and it should have been done weeks ago. Diaz has better numbers than Maldy in every category, offensive and defensive. A guy hitting .180 that plays everyday and rarely gets pinch hit for, even in close game late, is a major drag to the lineup. Diaz won’t magically fix the hitting, but it cannot hurt. Maybe when other guys are struggling it’s better to have a bat at catcher?!? And there were two much better options than Julks sitting on the bench today. Chas and Dubon. Chas also has 4 hits in his last two starts, which is 30% of the Astros TOTAL HITS over those games. Julks has 8 hits in his last 44 ABs. Chas hit like .286 last postseason and has shown signs at the plate this year. He was doing great early until he got hurt. What Chas needs is regular playing time to get back into a groove. That playing time is going to Julks for some reason that only Dusty knows. Julks should not be starting over those two guys ever. They are both better fielders too. Julks has been decent for a rookie, but he should not have anywhere close to the amount of starts he has. Is he dating Dusty’s granddaughter or something?
Chas is hitting .230 for the season. He is not going to fix the offense. Dubon should be playing more. Doesn't fix Tucker, Bregman, Pena, and Meyers.
Chas is a better hitter than that. He’s actually hitting .246, and .280 over the last seven. He’s certainly better than Julks (.278 OBP over the last 30). He also proved that he can play last postseason and deserves a little more leeway to get it going, in my opinion. Julks has been pretty bad for over a month now. Other guys are struggling, which is all the more reason to get better bats into the lineup.
In Dusty’s gravely voice: “hey man, this kid has shown some pop, ya know, ya know, I mean he’s given us some uh…action on the base pads, ya know, we just need to, ya know, find a way to get ‘em some more at bats and and let him….ya know get it going at the plate. I mean when he gets a hold of one it’s been great, he’s working hard every day so we feel good having his bat at the top of the line up and getting those, ya know, extra ABs…..thanks Robert Ford”
