Pelicans' Discussions With Teams Have 'Implied' Zion Williamson Is Available; has no relationship with organization or teammates

While there have been some reporting to suggest the New Orleans Pelicans will not entertain trading Zion Williamson, but Brian Windhorst of ESPN suggests there have been a surprising level of discussions involving the All-Star.

"It's surprising to me how out there it is in the league that the Pelicans are discussing Zion business," said Windhorst on his podcast. "I want to be very careful about the word 'offer' because that word is a dangerous word. I'm not sure the Pelicans have 'offered' Zion to anybody, but every day that passes over the past five or six days, I hear different discussions the Pelicans have had that implies they are going to make Zion available. Him or Brandon Ingram. I wouldn't rule out anything I guess, but the events of the last six months with Zion are what they are."

The Pelicans have been strongly linked with interest in trading up for Scoot Henderson.

"It is extraordinarily out there about how much the Pelicans are interested in Scoot Henderson. To the point where I'm like, 'How is this out there so hard unless the Pelicans want it out there?'

"So I'm nervous about giving that attention, but it is still there."

While the Pelicans may be high on Henderson, there does appear to have been a change in how they view Williamson's future with the franchise at this point.

"The Zion thing is there," said Windhorst. "At the very least, it is very clear that the Pelicans' thought on Zion Williamson's future with the team is evolving. That's putting it mildly."

Williamson and the Pelicans haven't been on the same page for much of his tenure with the team and that appears to be the case currently.

"There is no relationship between Zion and the organization," added Windhorst. "And minimal relationship between Zion and his teammates, from what I understand."

An insult to Dwight, who at least kept his body in great shape all the time.

I think Dwight had other problems, but he was mostly healthy.

He never expanded his game outside of that runner hook and the incredible dunks.

He had baby mommas but I think those girls were mostly unknowns and not some p*rn idols.

Feel bad for baby Zion, how are you supposed to go through life when someone calls your mother a w**** and all you can do is nod your head in embarassment and indignation?

Smart teams avoid jakes - and if they end up with a jake - they move him for someone that isn't a jake.

Zion is an incredibly talented offensive player -- but he doesn't like basketball, he lacks self discipline and is more concerned with licking the gravy he dropped on him sweat shirt than he is suiting up and playing basketball.

Let's see -- fat guy that has a poor work ethic that relies on athleticism and is injured all the time - entering his 5th year in the league...... that sounds like a GREAT fit next to the Rockets young core that has NEVER been held accountable for anything.

Maybe KPJ can throw food at Zion and we can watch Zion on all fours snorting it up off the floors while Tilman watches.

Maybe - assuming that Zion doesn't get his hoof stuck in the slop trough.

Well, if they up the requirement for All Star nominations to 65 games played or more I see difficulty for him.

You may be right ..... But If he plays another 114 games in the next 4 seasons, does your team have any shot at a championship in that span with him?

I don't think so and that is the ultimate goal. Anything that generates such a low chance of ultimate success is a no go for me.

And it's a damned shame. Zion, man....it's as if Miguel Cervantes had stopped in the middle of writing DON QUIXOTE and said, "You know, I just ain't feeling this. Where's the paella?" Got the talent but no tiene las ganas.

Imagine tanking for 3 years, then trading the assets you got from that for a 300 lb guy who doesn't like basketball and will probably never play even 60 games in a season again

You don't trade the assets you got, you trade picks as you don't need to pick any young players for the next 5 years as you have your core.

The above video is 3 years old. I remember prior to the draft, NBA executives anonymous of course, saying ZW body dynamics were a formula for disaster. Folks the kid is 6’6. That light bulb ain’t coming on.

Adding that level of immaturity and irresponsibility to the current Rocket roster, omg.

As for targets. Why are we trying to hit a home run? We need to get runners on base. No to the olds, Harden and FVV. I don’t have the answer to point guard,. I like KPJ but admit he’s not the answer. Others have mentioned some of following and the team should be looking at these types. Using guys like Tate, KMJ, KPJ and other players/assets. These guys are would be good complementary players Isaiah Stewart, Trey Murphy, Nic Claxton, & Onyeka Okongwu. Again, over pay for a point guard, no olds. This coming from an old.

As for the draft, #4 no preference. Pick or trade, not gonna lose sleep. But if we could trade up from 20 and get Lively that would a successful draft. If we can’t move up, if Keegan Murray’s little brother ( I know he’s older than Keegan ) is available, that would not be a reach. Solid fundamental player.

    …just my 2 cents

All we know about Chet so far is that he went 0-82 in his first season.

I'm not sure he is a helpful example of someone whose body type was questioned and has proved the doubters wrong.
He will need to play every game the next 3 years just to get himself to 75% of games played on his rookie contract.

Like - it is not even possible for Chet to play more games than Zion did in his first 2 seasons.

Zion will be too injured play in the All star game regardless so that’s kind of a moot point
