When people create strawmen, they always claim they are difficult to understand. How fascinating, eh? Provide proof that the team is better off with KPJ at the 1 than with a more efficient PG at the 1 and KPJ at the 2 or 3? You can't do it. Less rooting, more thinking.
Is KPJ a pounder? Oh, for sure, he does it, drives me crazy. But how much of that is he being forced into the wrong role? I don't think he's anything like that mold—he's much less of a willing passer than those guys. I think he's a pure shooting guard who's trying to be a PG because that's his job. Maybe it's true and this really is just who he is, but I've never seen him next to a true PG in a real offense, so I don't know. I'm not sure about him; I find him an enigma. But it might just be that I don't know what to make of him because he's playing the wrong position.
I think a lot of people have soured on him due to the personality conflicts, immaturity and the fact that he was put in the wrong position for his skills and the team suffered from it. A lot of people think he may not handle a bench role well and is too ball dominant to play in a free flowing offense. I'm one of those people.
I think you should take EVERYTHING into account. Sure he has more usage but if you looked at the Rockets roster last yr, who else were you going to trust to bring the ball up the court? who else was more consistent? For KPJ to have played the position only 1.5yrs, with a young roster, constant changes at the center position and a head coach at the time who really did not have a system, I thought he did damn good.
Since we've seen KPJ at the PG position with a group that is not efficient at 3pt shooting, which obviously brought down his numbers, I think the bigger question should be," how would an efficient or any other PG be with last yrs group"? And I think the answer is we just don't know because a player is only as good as what surrounds him. You put a 22/23yr old Chauncey Billups, Jamal Murray, Dejounte Murray or even Jalen Brunson on this team and it would look the same as it did last yr. Porter avg 19/5/5
