I think we're splitting hairs here, but I read that as the whole foot needs to be on the foul line or to the right of the line. Like the running lane is the area between the left edge of the foul line and the right edge of the runner's lane in foul territory. Essentially, the lines are part of the running lane. If any part of the feet are outside the running lane (or the entire foot except maybe one of Meyer's cleats based on the picture), then you're not in the running lane. But anyway, I applaud your loophole identification with this poorly devised rule. And I still would love to have an answer as to why the runner's lane starts 45 feet from the bag, when it only seems to matter at the time you touch the bag.
My goodness, for the first time ever I am actually looking forward to Dusty's bad lineup argument in a couple hours just to get away from the runner's interference debate.
I believe the rule actually requires him to be in the lane for the last half of the distance to first base regardless of the status of a play at the bag. The runner has no way to know if there is a throw to the bag.
With Yordan and Brantley both hurt, who would take his roster spot? I want Julks gone as much as anybody, but for a random Thursday game vs one of the worst teams in MLB, he might as well get a start. It's not this game by itself that is the issue, but the fact that he has started over 50% of the games st the expense of better players and hitters.
It's an interpretation issue. I have read that he has to be in the lane for the whole 45 feet, but also seen several interpretations that say he can enter the lane anywhere and no interference occurs if it happens after he establishes himself in the lane. Whether Myers was established in the lane on the play could be argued.
I agree it's not simply this game. Julks should be the OF equivalent of Salazar in that he plays once in a blue moon when rest demands it. Julks being in the top 8 in PA for the team is absurd. Dumb and very annoying.
I think Dusty essentially murdered Mancini's 2022 season... Reminder: Robel Garcia somehow has 100+ at bats in 2021...
Yainer Diaz has flown past Chas and Meyers as the most underutilized Astro, IMO. Dubon, to my surprise, is actually making a case to be underutilized (not to the extent of Diaz) as well, but he actually has guys in front of him that are really really good (usually).
